I've experienced severe, acute pain in my back right side, below my ribs, and a little above my hip for the last 4-5 days.
Its not my regular back pain that I suffer from, it's excruciating. So, I saw the hip dr last week, and nothing is broken according to the xrays.
They said they couldn't do anything for me, for the pain..except to tell me to continue with my vicadin, and use ice or heat to make it more comfortable.
It's worse...I was tempted to go to the ED, but I had a wedding yesterday I had to go to.
I suffered thru it, and took pain pills, and rested all last night and this morning..it was out of town.
Tonight, I emailed my Dr, to see if they could prescribe something for pain (Friday they pushed me off to call my hip dr, and they couldn't help me either)!!!!
So, I am calling 1st thing in the morming.
Has anyone ever had a pain in this area? it's sharp, and I can't turn my waist, or I get this sharp stabbing pain, like it's sprained, or something. I tried a muscle relaxer, but it didn't help at all.
I'm miserable, and in so much pain I've been crying off and on when I move, all day.
If you ever had this, could you please comment on here? It's not gall bladder, but not sure if it could be gallstones, or urinary tract infection or kidney stones....it's on the right side, right below rib cage in the back...and goes down my side, like over my waist...

breath away. I've asked about my gall bladder and kidney stones
but am repeatedly told, "it can't be that". No one will remotely think
"outside the box":(:(
If your primary is managing your pain, perhaps it's time to look into a pain management specialist that can evaluate things and get to the heart of the matter.
I wish you good luck in getting to the cause of this!!!!

Have you talked to your doctor yet? An ultrasound can show gallstones, and fluid, if there is any. It can also show a distended gallbladder. They may choose to do a CT instead (you can get more anatomical information from a CT). If they are still confused by the gallbladder, they may order a HIDA scan (with or without cck), to determine gallbladder function. If they want a CCK hida scan, you may have to stop the narcotics for 24 hours (that may not be able to happen).

I still have my regular chronic back pain, and got her to prescribe the Lidoderm patch, so we'll see if that helps.
I'm on an antibiotic, and a pain pill for my pain in my rib, and back. Also drinking Cranberry Grape juice and water, to help me.
Hoping I can sleep a bit more comfortable tonight, we'll see!

my dr was great, and took care of everything today. I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep, but thinking tomm night I will feel a lot better. I guess it takes a few days for the meds to start doing their job.

I think it does take a few days for the meds to kick in but you're doing good flushing your system the way you are.

Weird though, Nurse emailed me and said the urine test came back, no sign of infection??? SO, not sure what it is or was, but it's better, and i'm going to finish my medicine just the same. It was something, and the meds helped. But, all the same, laying low this weekend, and relaxing. My regular back pain is still there, so I will try to exercise, but rest too. Hope you all have something fun in store for your weekend!

That would deft be painful. hang in there, and let us know what the surgeon says.
