Back Pain Support Group
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical care. In fact, about 3 in 4 adults will experience back pain during their lifetime! The term back pain includes pain affecting the neck, midback and low back. Acute back pain may begin suddenly with intense pain but typically lasts fewer than three months. Usually, chronic back pain is persistent, steady, and...
We feel like everyone should work 12 hrs straight with no bathroom break and if you are sick and throwing up, oh well, take some Tylenol and just keep going.
I actually make up stuff if I'm in so much pain (not just from back, but other stuff) on the rare times I call in to work. Because especially if you say BACK PAIN, people roll their eyes and act like you're a wimp. They have no idea!!
Good luck again!!
Pain, they can't see or measure, and this society teaches that pain is weakness, therefore you must be weak and worthless.
It's not true! Quite the opposite. It takes a very strong person to endure pain and keep going. It takes an even stronger one to admit they need help and are closing on their limit. It takes an amazingly strong person to say "Hey, I need help" Or "I need to slow down to protect my health!"
Sounds to me, like you are in that amazingly strong category. Keep up the good work and don't get hard on yourself if you have a bad day.
If you've given only 10% on a day you're only 10% of what you normally are... You just gave 100% for the day!
@musicalheart - That was a wonderful way to say it. It is true that the "invisible" diseases get the roll of the eyes, and the scoff. Every patient I treat, I treat with care, and respect. Except for those who are belligerent, or rude. When I get a patient who tells me I don't understand... I look at them, and I calmly explain my history, and say... I can understand... and I do. I am with you... and you have an ally in me. They usually smile, and appreciate the understanding. I am going to keep going... but it feels very lonely at work.
Thanks guys!!
Here's hoping for less pain for us all!!

Vent anytime hd - I know it helps, been there myself.
Take care and smack those co workers up beside the head. lol There are bullies every where, not just in our schools.
Perhaps your should have a wipe off board at your work where you can write comments about yes I'm in pain and have stitches but thanks for asking..no you don't need to bring me anything I can crawl over and get itmyself :p
Love the board idea! I could think of other things to write, but I'd probably get fired! LOL! I work amongst a bunch of "high school" girls. They're women.... eternally trapped in the vicious circle of gossiping, plotting, and ridiculing. A couple of cliques. I've never been good with that. I am an independent woman, who will tell you what she thinks, of course, trying not to offend or hurt, but being honest.
@ laurie
I don't understand why people go into medicine if they're not going to help. You can tell when someone is faking it. I get those kinds of patients frequently. When someone is in pain... you can see it in their face. The eyes never lie! I would love to smack a couple certain people. Again, can't because I could get fired. They are bullies... sad thing is, management does nothing about it.
:::sigh:::
take care peeps!!

I wonder if part of the way our society reacts to pain is due to the wide coverage by the media of pain pill abuse.
I seriously went to a neurologist for my pain (recommended by my PCP), she did a half ass exam and said "everyone has bulging discs". I also have lumbar scoliosis which I didn't know until the MRI at that point.
She very clearly told me she is "NOT " writing me scrip for any pain pills. Seriously?? I didn't come here asking for that! I was hoping you could HELP ME. Ugh.
I encourage my patients to take pain pills on MD schedule, especially before therapy or going out somewhere, so they can function better.
Hang in there everyone!!
