I am a member of the fibromyaliga group. But I have spinal cord damage in my neck and am having surgery next week. c4-C6 my neck. They can't repair the damage but can stop the progression of it. If not done I will be paralyzed soon.

Just concerned wondering if any one else has improved after neck surgery?

I have moderate to severe lumbar issues since 2008, had one surgery in 2010 and have an appointment with my Neurosurgeon tomorrow to discuss fusion surgery.
I had my first MRI on my Cervical spine a month ago & these are some of the findings...
There is a mild reversal of the normal cervical lordosis, central canal is congenitally narrow,
C2-3: Minimal uncovertebral osteophytosis and
some degenerative change.
C3-4: Small posterior disk/osteophyte complex. Bilateral uncovertebral osteophytosis and facet degenerative change. Mild central canal narrowing. Mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing.
C4-5: Left paracentral posterior disk/osteophyte complex indents the left paramidline ventral aspect of the cord. Mild bilateral uncovertebral
osteophytosis and facet degenerative changed. Minimal bilateral neural foraminal narrowing.
C5-6: Posterior disk/osteophyte complex. Bilateral uncovertebral
osteophytosis and facet degenerative change. Central canal narrowing with flattening of the ventral aspect of the cord. Mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing.
C6-7: Small central posterior disk/osteophyte complex. Bilateral
uncovertebral osteophytosis and facet degenerative change. Although the
central posterior disk/osteophyte complex is small due to the relatively
narrow central canal there is still some impingement on the ventral aspect of the cord by the bulging disk.
C7-T1: Tiny posterior disk/osteophyte complex. Minimal uncovertebral
osteophytosis and facet degenerative change.

Impression: Degenerative spondylosis as described in detail by level
above, in the setting of a congenitally narrow central canal. Although
degenerative spondylosis is overall only moderate in severity, the central canal is congenitally narrow and there is significant cord impingement at two levels and minimal cord impingement of the third. There is neural foraminal narrowing. Uncertain which level is the symptomatic level.

I just turned 46 last month. My life is nothing compared to what it was just 6 years ago. I understand completely when you say it affects your quality of life. Between the spinal issues and Fibromyalgia most days I feel like a shell of a person, with moderate to severe pain every single day.
I'm going to be getting a Thoracic MRI done as well to see what's going on there.

Hi all. I have had 5 neck surgeries and am fused from C3-C7. I also am fused from L3-S1. Most often I am on the chronic pain side but stop in here every now and then.
Itsallajoke you will prob have more responses on the chronic pain side. OhCarol I have had relief after the surgeries and wouldn't think twice if I had to have another one.
Emf6874 I totally understand how you feel. I too have fibro and there are days when I can't get out of bed. Are you on pain meds and are they helping?

Thanks for the replies! Phase Two Degeneration here; wish I saw a doctor before it got this far. Bone spurs and osteoarthritis, but still have the use of all my limbs. The blood circulation is getting bad in my extremities, though, which is scary. The only thing that can be done for me is surgery, but I'm scared to death of it. I'm afraid of everything having to do with my neck.
