Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical care. In fact, about 3 in 4 adults will experience back pain during their lifetime! The term back pain includes pain affecting the neck, midback and low back. Acute back pain may begin suddenly with intense pain but typically lasts fewer than three months. I put on my climbers (spurs that I would shove into the pole to haul my a$$ up) and began to climb. When I got to about 25 feet, the line I was going to connect to the phone wiring came loose from my belt and fell down down down.
So I had to climb back down, which was even harder, grab the line and before I could start climbing again, I burst into tears-I hurt so bad. So there I was, sitting at the base of a telephone pole in the mud (it was raining) thinking--I don't know if I can do this job again when my husband drove up to meet me for lunch. He was also a installer-and he hated to climb worse than anything-but he grabbed the line, got his gear on and climbed that pole for me then said-"go home. You aren't ready to go back to work. "
It was the sweetest thing he ever did for me!
2 weeks later they allowed me to go on light duty while I got my strength back then a few months later they "medically retired" me because at age 58 I couldn't work as fast as I did at age 38 and it was taking me too long to build my strength up.
I wish I had a picture of me sitting in the mud though, with tears and rain streaming down my face, trying to get my guts up to go back up that damn telephone pole.

Poem to my "Brother" who would let me starve to Death and still thinks after 21 years I am faking this crap!
Jerk 'n Boots
My Life is like the ocean Bern
It's ne'er safe to stop in motion turn
I toss and weep while sleep is none
And seen too many rows a'knows of Suns
For went to work a jerk in boots
And nightly studied my pursuits
To rise again to face the day
For I was this, the worker's way
For I was this, the worker's way
And now do come the sum of sorrows
The come of from some other's 'morrows
And struggling with the gift of purpose
And reams of dreams still yet to surface
To dare compare the why of what
And stare into the depth of naught
To think and drink of dawning's dew
To tip and sip til sipping's through
For went to work a jerk in boots
And nightly studied my pursuits
To rise again to face the day
For I was this, the worker's way
For I was this, the worker's way
My Life is like the ocean Bern
It's ne'er safe to stop in motion turn
I toss and weep while sleep is none
And seen too many rows a'knows of Suns
