Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. I have written on here before about my 3 year old son. I have two questions that I would like some help with. My first question is dealing with health insurance. My son is recieves SSI benefits and so he has health insurance. I am wondering if his insurance will cover a behavioral therapist. We live in Kentucky and I am not sure what all his insurance will cover.
My second question is that my son has recently developed a fist waving and hitting activity when he gets upset. When I put him in timeout he waves his fist at me while yelling something. He mostly speaks in his own language that I do not understand. That doesn't bother me so much but sometimes he actually hits me with his fist when he is angry. He also pushes his brothers and sisters forceably when he gets mad at them. Does any have any answers or advice on either question.

You need to understand how he is really expressng himself. He probably saw that on a cartoon or something and thinks that it is an effective communication, because he is getting a response.
Your response of time out could possibly help or make it escalate, dependng on how you are responding. I know sometimes Oli just scripts the shows he has seen, and out of nowhere he is off on fit.
Last week we were running late for ABA, due to traffic. We drive 75-80 miles a day for ABA, ad the state required 85% on time attendence, or you are out. I get a bit feisty in traffic, and when we got there he was upset and about something and I just rushed into the building, then he followed and socked me in front of the director of the ABA . We did not react to his hitting other than she made him understand I deserved an apology, and made him look at me and say sorry for hitting you Mommy.
I have learned with the brother battery, my older son just knows to get out of the way, and quite frankly, Oli learns pushing and those sorts of things from being pushed. When his autism first appeared he was in play school with aggressive 2 year olds.. and he was the one being pushed.
I could really entertain you about the way Oli responded to being spanked by Daddy. He would get made if I would say no in the store, and he took the seat of my pannts down in public to spank be because he was not in approval of that behavior.
We live in Northern Michigan so not a lot of options up here.
