Over the past few nights, my son has been taking his diapers off after we put him to bed, leaving him naked from the waist down. He doesn't do it during the day, just at night. It's kind of a funny sight to see, but my wife and I are unsure why he's doing it. Maybe one another step towards potty training?? Any advice or similar experience???

If it's a problem & he's not ready for potty training, try putting the diaper on backwards so he can't reach the tabs or wrapping a ring of duct tape around the diaper's waist.

i have a 4 yr old autistic son and he wears nappies still at night and he'll take them off he also strips day or night and it doesn't matter where he is in the house or who's visiting. i think maybe in your case it is possible it could be potty time though take care x x

My son does the same thing. Day and night. I find him sleep naked a lot. And we'll find random diapers scattered all over the room where he's kicked them off and they've gone flying. I have no solution for you. I just thought I would sympathize with you. There is a noticable difference when my son's fully dressed as opposed to just letting him run around in a t-shirt and diaper. He does it less often with pants over it. In my son's case, I don't think it has anything to do with potty training because he'll take off completely dry ones as well as wet ones. It's very random. And some days he'll take off everything we put on him and some days he'll take off nothing. So who knows, maybe it's just a mood that strikes. But I feel ya.

Like mentioned, try using bottoms at night. Otherwise, try having him wear a sleeper on backwards at night (just cut off the feet).

Well, it could just be that he is hot. I don't think it is about potty training though if he is only doing this at night. Usually night time potty training is the last part of potty training. What I did with my son is I took his one piece PJ's that zip up in the front. I cut the feet off of them and put them on him backwards. He wont be able to take them off with the zipper on his back!

It is definitely potty training time. My Noah used to do this, and I would put underwear on him. He never had one accident. He would go to the bathroom in the morning after my verbal prompt. If your child is not ready for this, then I would just put a diaper on him when he wakes up. Noah used to to this when he was @3, and he became fully potty trained at 4 years. Good luck!

My son did a similar thing. We used a loose fitting boxer short for him to sleep in. I would say it could be a step in the right direction for potty training too. Put on a waterproof bed pad and see what happens!

Thanks for all the advice. We had a few more incidents with this. One as when he was supposed to be taking his afternoon nap. After removing his diaper, he went #2 and was tracked it all over his room. What a digusting mess! Later that night, my wife and I went to check on him before we went to bed, and his diaper was off again (and he also went #2 again all over his bed). We're doing the backwards pj's thing. We also noticed that if he's wearing pants/shorts that button and zip, he can't get them off. I tried to sit him on the potty, and he did sit there but didn't go. Once I got his diaper back on, he went. How frustrating!!
