I think that as long as he's not eating anything poisonous then you should let him get on with it. This seems like a case of personal taste escalated due to the autism. My son will eat anything he can get his hands on (toothpaste is a favourite). I hear that in some places it's common practise to have a wedge of cheese with apple pie...so who's to say what's right!!

from personal experience i would say as long as it is not excessive junk food if he will eat let him eat, some autistic kids go through a not eating/eating only one or two diff. things. the only thing that concerns me is you said you did it to avoid him throwing a fit. i have seen the effects of giving in to things you would probably not give into just to avoid the crying, do yourself and your son a favor, if it is something you really do not think he should have or do, stand your ground. it is extremely hard to get an autistic child back on the right track if they are allowed to have a fit to get their way, not saying that is what you do, just giving my experience just in case you need it. weird food combos, here is one, my little brother would put kethup on raw carrots, he is 'normal' he is now 38 yrs old and still does it sometimes lol! good luck!

Its true and please teach him now before he is bigger and stronger because I know i know i know... That is worse than any crying time he will have now. xo!

my daughter likes just the same things over and over and she likes some honey on everything which i try to do not putting to much on...i admit it gets on my nerves at that times because i can't imangine someone liking that like honey on a bean & cheese burrito i have it hard because of divorce where her mother will feed her one way which includes a lot of what i feel is bad and then there is my mostly vegan diet which my daughter isnt attracted to

Bacon is one of the main things my son eats. He could eat bacon with everything. He eats it with his mac and cheese. Bizarre but at least he's eating. I wouldnt worry about it as long as he is getting all his nutrients and isnt eating anything harmful.

My Aspie son (now 12) has insisted on strange food combos all his life. I decided early on if it's healthy, it's ok. I think it's the texture, taste, smell issues - sensory stuff he has.

i have aspergers (simular to autism) and i have a strange food combination i like...melted chese and chocolate chip cookies...don't know y but i love it!thing is i hate all other kinds of chese(unless melted)

I don't know if you call it weird food, but a good recipe started something like taking a little of this and a little of that etc. My son eats french fries ducked into tuna fish mixed with mayo. He mixes barbecue sauce and blue cheese salad dressing and uses as a sauce for his chicken cutlet. Listen I love to cook and can make almost every kind of different cultural food. this bring joy into my life knowing his brain is working and his stomach can take it. A
normal individual who have access with his receptive and expressive language can come up with the idea of starting by taking a pole putting a few blades together and today we are in business we can now generate eneregy from wind. If a child without a problem ask for the same combination we would not give it a second thought. We would cosidered it normal and like priscila said as long as it is not excessive junk food let him have it.
