My son doctor is reccommending Resperidone for my son. Has anyone given this med to thier child? How did they respond to it? I really need help making a decision here. I was very against medicating my son at first, but with his recent behavior problems at school I'm starting to reconsider. Help?

Hey like I said it works for some and not others. I've met kids who have top doctors, meds and diets and still not functioning. If the kid is going to break through he/she will. Time can only tell. Yes, I am 26 and my son is 9. I had him young yes, but I'm the great mother and we're best friends. Yes some young parents can face their responsibilities and focus on life and that child and breathe for them. :)

my son takes it.I dont like him on it, but if a miss like two or three days I can tell.He gets real mad about silly things and will try to bite me.he takes these dissolvable tbs.He gets most of it.I have to give him clonidine to sleep.The resperidal wont seem like it helps, but it does a little bit.I was going to stop giving it to him but everytime I notice he does better with a little bit.I am taking him to a homeopath and hopefully he wont need meds anymore.I have given up giving him this Daytrana patch.he wont wear it and hes not happy on it but calmer.I am getting really stressed lately he just wont stand still for one minute.His mind goes 100 mh.I thought the risperdal would help eith that but it doesnt at all.

Jordan has been on Risperdal for about 3 months now and it has made a HUGE difference. It is NOT a decision to be taken lightly! He was put on it after a string of meltdowns at school, the last one being a full psychotic episode where he had to be sedated by the paramedics. He was fighting off the deputy principal who was trying to physically restrain him, and this man regularly competes in marathons and triathlons and is trained and experienced in restraint. We're talking SERIOUS issues!
This drug should not be the first option to dealing with problem behaviours. That said, since JOrdan has been on it he hasn't had a major breakdown. He's gotten upset a few times, but is very easily calmed back down before it gets out of control. So while it was absolutely the best choice for my son, you need to be sure of your decision before you go ahead.
And don't let the school pressure you! They want what's easiest for them, not what's best for him!
