The following is a post from another groups about the "joys" of treating my son's yeast overgrowth with Nystatin.


I wish I could post all the good things Harrison does, but treating his autism isn't always all bright and happy. He does have some nasty stuff inside him, and we're trying to flush it all out. Right now, we're working on his yeast overgrowth, using Nystatin. For the first few days, it didn't look like much was happening. Then his "wet" diapers starting smelling a little foul and got worse. Then he started becoming more easily agitated, especially when transitioning. He's becoming fixated on single objects again, especially a few favorite toys. This hasn't happened for awhile. I guess this is the "one step back" part of "two steps forward and one step back". I just hate seeing him go through this. He's crying alot more. Tonight, when it was time to get him ready for bed, he didn't want to stop playing his "doggy bones game" an cried all the way through his bedtime routine (changing into pjs, brushing teeth, and reading books), and it wasn't a small cry. I'm talking big crocodile tears. The same thing happened yesterday when it was tie to come home from the pool. It breaks my heart to see him so sad, but I have to keep reminding myself that in the long run, it's going to make him better.


As a little "post note", Harrison's easily being agitated isn't getting much better, but I've heard it can last for a week or so. It does seems as though he is urinating more than he is taking in, and I can smell the "wet diapers" as easily as the "messy ones", so I know he is dumping something.
