Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

Read both pages. At the bottom of pg. 2 there are lots of links to more specific information about this disorder.
It sounds like your boyfriend has one of the more "milder" cases, so there's nothing to worry about. Its not going to get worse. And steps can be taken through behavioral training techniques to make his life better.
In 2005, I suspected my baby had ASD, and when I studied about it, I thought,"Isn't everyone like THAT?" At the WalMart, nobody had eye contact. Babies develop language at different rates. etc.. I eventually came to conclude from my studies that we all have this trait or that, but the total number together makes the DX, and indeed we as humans have the ability to overcome or indeed we can become more confused and in some cases ASD can become disabling.
Oli was fortunate to have accepting, typical preschool friends, and he learned how to be "one of the gang" as his current 2nd grade teacher puts it. He is popular, and the other parents tell me the kids think he is really fun and a great friend.
Just be a great friend, and accept him as he is, and if he has something about him that is socially awkward, be a roll model, and nicely explain how an appropriate way to respond or act is better.
Even children and faithful marriage, could be rewaring.
There is a bright side on that Spectrum.
Normal is a relative term, normal temps here in March are cold, but normal temps in other parts of the USA and down right hot. Both are "normal", just depends on where you are ;p
Being a high functioning autistic-savant, I think I might be able to help you understand his autism better, but from my viewpoint, autism truly effects everyone differently.
If you are willing to share some things, like what he specifically says or does that confuses you, and give me information to work with, publicly or privately, I will do my best to help you try to understand it.
Autism is a very broad, umbrella term. It covers a lot of things, some of which may be relatively easy to deal with (as in my example; I am a high-functioning autist who can take care of himself, mostly), while others could require around the clock care and attention.
A lot of people with autism don't always respond well to touch; I can't really explain it myself. It's like, certain sensations almost give me a feeling of panic. Kissing, and such, could be causing him to growl because he's conflicted; he wants to do those things with you, but the sensation is also making him freak out.
Not feeling sorry for hurting people may be more a matter of morals than autism; does he feel like the people deserved it?
Not sure what could be causing the moodiness; it may or may not be related to autism. It mostly depends on his diagnosis.
Has he seen a psychologist of any sort for his problems, at any point in life? If he has an official diagnosis, I might be able to explain it better to you.
Although, mind you, I am not a professional. I post what I believe to be correct information, but their is a chance I am in error.
