So the last day of school was this week. When the kids got off the bus, I said to the bus driver, hopefully next year will be better. Her reply. It better be better. me - well, we'll have time to work on it then. her - Ha, get better. Meanwhile she is looking at me with this death look staring me down with a straight face. Me - Well, have a good summer. Her - I will now - and she closes the door to the bus.
Now come on. She made this problem and then she blamed me for teh problem, then she wouldn't let me try to fix the problem, now she is going to not even try to have an optimistic attitude to work to improve things in teh future. Whatever.
I have worked with kids for a very long time. and let me to tell you what the most important thing about working with kids is - BEING THE ADULT.
Kids have a hard time distiquishing what moods they are having in the first place, let alone trying to find ways off dealing with those feelings effectively. We are adults - we should be able to take it when a kids is frustrated and struggling even if it does not come out in the best ways. Our job is to be supportive and positive to assist them and support them in finding better ways to deal with things. If you get ofended by a kid not staying in his seat, you are acting like a child and just simply need to stop working around kids, because you are making it worse.

You are so right about the part about "being the adult". Unfortunately I learned this "on the job" (after I already had my son and saw things not working). But, I see a lot of parents not doing this and I wonder if filing a complaint would prompt some supervisor to clue the bus driver in.
Anyway, I'm glad everyone its getting a break and I wish you all a more peaceful "next year".
