First off congrats,,, the second well that is hard my daughter was second so not that hard, but just when you start to feel the baby kick at your tummy have your child put his hand there to feel, and explain, that is one way...

woo hoo! well, we talk to adam all the time about my daughter about to have a baby, he is very excited and seems to understand! just like you would any other child really. hey harrison you are going to be a big brother, mommy has a baby in her tummy, and one day soon the baby is coming home and you can be the helper, that kind of stuff...you can do this, its easy!

there are great books for kids about being a big brother. Just check your local barnes and nobles. My son had books called I'm a big brother, and a book that explained what happens to mommy when she gets bigger and tired and when she goes to the hospital. He also has a book about what to expect when the baby comes home and dealing with jealousy. We read them to him every night before the baby was born. We even bought a present for him to give to him in the hospital from his baby brother so he wouldn't get upset.

Actually I have that situation. My 7 year old is autistic and my 4 year old is not. We just kept telling my older son Aidan that I would have a baby some day. I don't know how much he fully grasped it. Now, my younger son Owen really acts more like the big brother. I would often just tell Aidan that he would be a big brother. Aidan has higher functioning autism, but he does have intellectual delays. May I ask how old your son Harrison is? Aidan was only 2 when I was pregnant and not quite 3 when his brother was born. Somewhere in his mind he sort of understood, even if he couldn't express it. I wish you all the best for your family.

Luckily we had lots of other pregnant ladies around us at the same time and all with different due dates so it was easy to tell Ette theres a baby in there and it seemed like every other month a mommy had a baby and we could show him, not the birth of course but her tummy was big and thats what came out. After a little while he was really nice and soft to my tummy and would lay and listen, the only problem we have had is sharing mommies lap. Congradutlaions and hope your little guy gets excited. Ette was 3 when we had Emma shes 9 months now and he is really great with her. He doesnt seem to notice her but he always manages to avoid her when hes running and has even picked up toys for her when she drops them. Its really amazing how he reacts to people smaller than him. He really seems to settle down and play nice.

Well CONGRATS!!!!!!!! I dunno...my son has a 6th sense about these kinda things.....somehow....he just knows...my sister has had 5 children since he has been born..and is currently expecting....he also....was telling me"momma got a baby in her tummy" in 2005 ....BEFORE I EVEN KNEW I WAS PREAGNANT!!!!!!!! I lost my baby girl when I was 4 months and 1 week......he AGAIN....KNEW....."baby in heaven momma"......I tell ya......our kiddos....know soooooo much more than we even realise!!!!!

We just went through this, my boy is 5 and we just had a baby in Dec, we were clueless as to what to do, so we did what you would do with a "normal" child. We told him everyday that there would be a baby coming and that he was going to be a big brother.
He didnt really understand but he now realises that his sister is here to stay but he ignores her and pretends she isnt there. We showed him the baby clothes and toys and basically talked about it everyday and told him everyday that our love for him will stay the same.
