Nobody is interested. Your lucky, at least they don't insist on giving your child the agent that he is sensitive to,ie vaccines, and then insult you for thinking that you know what is good for your child. Why can't you just send lunch with instructions that under no circumstances that he be fed the following items!

I was thinking why don't you go have an heart to heart with you gen practitioner/ped and show the articles regarding the behavior problems caused by this reaction , and get them to put in in writting that this child requires a pecial modified diet.. END OF TOPIC. If your reg doc says that it is not so, then call until you find a GP who will listen and change! Maybe you need a DO or a DC to help you, especially one who works with allergies!

Doctors (Neurologists specifically) dismissed what my husband and I told them after years of dealing with my husbands seizures. We knew because of trial and error that any significant change in his glycemic index would trigger a grand mal seizure. We also knew that sometimes he could "fight them off". Doctors said this was not possible. Sometimes you just know what you know! We got to the point where we stopped telling them everything we had learned because we knew they would look at us like we were crazy. I think sending his lunch would be a good idea and maybe mention to teachers to treat his diet as if it were an "allergy". Maybe it would make it easier for them to understand. Our insurance company has paid for everything they would have if it were an out of net doctor. Obviously we are not dealing with a DAN doctor, but it is similar in the way of alternative and more natural approaches to medicine. We had to submit everything ourselves and it was a pain but worth it in the end. I commend you for doing all you can for your child. I know from dealing with my sister and nephew(2 and a half with Autism)that you work very hard to do what you feel is best for you child. Hang in there!

Olismom- why so rude to me? How dare you say "Nobody is interestd" when it comes to my child???I have something to say about it, but I won't post it here.
Anyways, I cannot send him to school with any food, drinks, or candy. He is in a special needs class with children who have severe allergies, and therefore no one may bring a lunch. Otherwise, I would have.
I did speak with my son's doctor- she dismissed it as I said before.

You can get the IEP to clearly state that your son has a need. And I am not being rude! Sorry if you are offended, but I do serve as a mirror!

ummm olismom did you mean that the Dr's are the ones not interested? i read it as that, not that no one is interested in her childs well being, and i agree, send lunch and tell them nothing else to eat other then what you send.

I beleive what olismom is trying to say here is that the school, drs, neuros are the ones who isnt interested. she is not meaning you melindaG or anyone here. she got this from the statement that you made of the neuro dismissed it, she is referring to how most of us parents feel that schools, peds dr, neuro etc dont listen to us is all :)

I have a question...I'm still new to this, so what is a DAN doctor? I've been eliminating gluten from my diet because of the reactions I've been have to it and I'm working on my autistic kids. So any information you can share would be appreciated.
