Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
I am still trying to get a proper diagnosis for my 3 year old daughter. I never realized how expensive just a diagnosis would be. The local charity that said they so free evaluations cannot get the volunteer doctor to come in and do them, so we have to find another place.
My husband and I both agree from our reading on the topic that she is probably somewhere on the spectrum. Some of my family members seem to be in denial. They keep saying there are kids that don't talk until 4. But kids that just talk late don't also constantly line up their dolls in a straight line or fix a puzzle using the same piece sequence every time or put hands over their ears for no known reason. They also see all of her reciting of nursery rhymes and songs as encouragement, but the 2 way communication is still lacking. I understand positive thinking but sometimes you have to face reality.
Did any of you have a hard time convincing others that there is something more to the pattern behaviour?

He said it is too bright,what works well for me is coloured sunglasses. I have a pair in every color of the rainbow =P but blue is the best idea, blue is calming. =]
for the smell... try and find something that smells good to him, that he can take out and sniff to override the perfume. (i used to like those scented markers but that probably isn't a good idea.... XD that bubble tape that comes in a package can smell and its very nice. try finding other things and see if it helps. If you can't block it out, override it!
I guess we will find some answers tomorrow.
