We lost a couch and a banana chair to chewing...we have even caught Ette trying to chew tires at the tire store...he chews everything also...you are not alone...we bought chewy tube...the surgical kind...it comes in a few different strengths...and he loves it...but since its a tube it fills up with spit and gets gross so you have to change it out alot...you can try massaging his chin if he will let you and you can also try vibrating teethers...I would talk to the speech therapist...they often have vibrating toys that are for oral stimulation....good luck...

My 10 yr old still chews all kinds of stuff. He always has something in his mouth. I'm afraid he will be toothless by 20 at this rate. I have tried all kinds of stuff, but he always goes back to pen caps, small plastic stuff of any kind. Frustrating and gross at times, but it is better to have him chewing something than to have his finger up his nose all day!

oh no , don't mention the finger up the nose, i'm just wondering if it is stress or something he just does for comfort

For a couple of months my son was always chewing on the collars and sleeves of his shirts - so much that a couple of times I said to him, "Stop eating your clothes!"

The school tried "chewelery" and it worked for a couple weeks, but just when I was about to buy some for home it stopped working. I remember a post a long time ago from a parent who tried straws. I tried that too. It works (for us) better than chewelery, but still only works sometimes. We've also tried gum in the past. He chews it, but almost always swallows it.

I'm pretty certain that it is a combo of a soothing thing and an oral sensory thing. Devin will never use the same thing for more than a day at a time. So I think the shape, feel etc. while he is chewing. I'm about ready to buy some dog chewy's for him. At 10, he trashes anything that ends up in his mouth.

dog chewy might not be a bad ideal , maybe he wont tear as fast as these chewys things he has, he just seems to chew so hard and fast he actually chews it in half.can't be good for his teeth

No kidding, he chews plastic pen caps, toys (non chewy) etc. Although he just found an old teething blanket (one that has the rubbery corners with a cute animal attatched to the middle.) They are farely inexpensive, only 4-5 dollars at walmart. But with Devin it seems to be what ever happens to be in his hands at the moment. Chess and chekers pieces, dominoes, monopoly pieces, pencils, pens, straws, matchbox cars, and on and on and on. . .

My son, Taylor also chews on everything. He is only 2 almost 3. I kept thinking he would outgrow it but he still hasn't. I get worried that he will swallow something but I have been lucky so far. Right now he loves to take the little tires of his toy cars and chews on them. When he can't find anything to chew on he chews on his fingers to the point where he almost gags himself. Any suggestions would be great as to how to help him with this.
