Well, my wife and I just got "dismissed" by another daycare provider. She didn't want to have to "deal the so many needs" that "some" of her current kids can have. Since my wife and I got an email direct from her (and many unanswered emails and phone calls), we're safe in assuming she meant us. Harrison doesn't have behavioral issues. He's not aggressive towards other children. My wife and I supply her with every little thing that his gfcf diet requires. These kids need consistency, and I feel horrible that I can't provide that for my son.


These people just need to give our kids a chance, something they deserve as much as any other child. I dream of the day that I can find a daycare provider who puts the "care" in daycare. I dream of the day when I can find a daycare provider who will enjoy in Harrison's development and successes as much as I do. I dream of the day when my son gets all the opportunities and consistency he deserves.

i feel for you, i had a really hard time finding a god daycare provider for Noah when I used to work. i even worked third shift for many years because of this reason, and i used to come home and stay up all day with him, then take a little nap when he did...the lack of sleep almost did me in!

so, when i later got together with my fiancee, i did not have to worry about daycare anymore, because he worked the opposite shift as me. is there any way that you and your wife can do this, so you won't need a childcare provider?

It's not easy even for us parents. If we had the opportunity to choose whether our own kids had this issue most of us wouldn't either. While I certainly don't condone your sitters behaviour, I guess you can't blame her too much. But it would have been nice if she could have been more "up-front" about it though. Kinda immature to let you go by e-mail. Child care is such a personal business, she should have told you in person like an adult.

My husben and I had day care problems. We could not fin one that we could afford they said we had to pay more because he needed more one on one care. so I made the choice to not work and saty home and care for our son it has been very very hard loosing the extra money but I think our son has done better with me staying home.

I, too, could not find appropriate daycare. I ended up quitting my job and staying home with my kids. After a while, I took to doing before and after school care for one child, just to provide a little extra grocery money. Good luck... I hope you and your wife find someone really great.

I also gave up business and other things to stay home. Oliver does attend a fuultime program that is very considerate of special needs. You should find a provider that is understanding, or at the time of crisis, I had to just cancel jobs and classes, and it is not that easy to pick up again. You may need to reconsider the family budget. Sometimes the expenses of working and daycare are so high that the income lost from quiting a job, may be offset by the opportunity to qualify for SSI or another opportunity. Good Luck!

CAN YOU SAY DISCRIMINATION!!!!! Sweetheart you may look into the law. They can NOT discriminate against your child. It is called the IDEA ACT. Not saying that you would want to keep your child in a facility where he is not wanted, but on the same hand..he has a right to be there legally. Good Luck! :)

lovebug, FYI IDEA and civil rights are only regarding the organizations that accept public or federal funding. Private people can do what they want, as well as churches too. It is out of compassion and consideration that we find community support. We do have rights at the county level to get respite, but for us it is for several hours a month, not day care. I have known of parents that get together and fund ABA designed special home school type day care/school for their kids. In fact if you wanted to fight the system and you can prove the school does not provice appropriate education you could get the school to pay for that. I fought for 12 month program and got it last year for the entire summer, but it was really stressful and to consider the amount it was worth, it is a wash to either get a job or sue the school.

Oneof his classroom aides (who has been watching him this summer) agreed to watch him before and after school for the first few weeks. In late September, my wife is due and is taking 12 weeks off, so that buys us a little more time to find proper daycare. The best thing for us is to be honest, from the beginning, about my son's special needs. He is getting much better, through his biomedical treatment, and his autistic symptoms are (very) slowly starting to disappear. We're now entering the detox phase of his treatment, so we're eagerly awaiting to see the improvement that brings, which should make things easier for prospective daycare providers.
