Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

Trigger: jumping from bed

My last two afib/aflutter episodes were started by jumping from bed at night, once because of a noise outside, the other time because of a leg cramp. Has anybody had a similar experience?

This morning I had an hr. episode from getting up and down from a chair 5x in a row...exercise to help not to sit too long. It gets your heart rate up really fast.

oh no!! are you ok now? This darn a fib can strike for any reason or NO reason. That's what makes it so tough to deal with.

The senior exercise class I attend usually has very mild exercises, but one of them involves ten stand-ups in a row and then ten more after a rest. I do alternate ones to keep up with the class. It would not surprise me one bit if doing all twenty put me in afib. The rest of the class is quite beneficial - designed for seniors.
