Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
And like usual, I'm worried!
EP wants to switch because he feels the Flecanide will be better at keeping me out of A-fib. He wants me to stop the Multaq (I've taken it for about 3 years) for an entire week. That means NO ANTIARRYTHMIC at all for 7 days. Then, on the 7th day, I'm to start the Flecanide. He's ordered an EKG a week after that.
Oh boy.....I'm stressing about this one! I'm worried about the week that I'm off the med altogether, and I'm worried about beginning a new med. I'm hoping someone here can help me to calm a bit about what's coming soon.
Anyone switched from Multaq to Flecanide? Any one have anything to tell me about what to expect from the Flecaide?

I have to agree with Hwkmn.....my EP insisted I have a nuclear stress test before beginning Flecainide to be sure my heart was structurally healthy. He is insisting, also, that I have an EKG one week after taking it. You might want to call yours and see if he thinks it's necessary. It's a potent drug.
I'm on my 6th day of it now, and I'm experiencing no side effects. I'm hoping that means I will be able to tolerate it long term. I don't really know if the side effects will happen after I've taken it a while, but I'm hoping for the best. My dream is that this will be the one that will keep me in NSR for a long, long time. I know an ablation is in my future, but I'd like to put a little time in before that time comes.
