As long as we are hijacking the thread with cholesterol stuff, here's my 2 cents. I never had high cholesterol in my life. When I had the stroke Dec 31, 2013, the neurologist put me on 80 mg of Lipitor (the max). This is the current stroke protocol. The research indicates that massive doses on statins reduce the incidence of a second stroke within the next year by a large amount. So I went along. After six months I convinced my cardiologist to knock it down to 40 mg. After another two months I felt that it was making me fatigued, so I took the 40 every other day. Two weeks ago I saw my PCP for my welcome to Medicare visit. My Liver enzymes are too high, probably from the Lipitor. I have copies of blood work going back over six years, my Liver enzymes were never out of wack until I started taking Lipitor. So, we knocked the dosage down to 10 mg and will check the blood again in three months. If the liver enzymes are still high, the Lipitor goes.

Also found my TSH (thyroid) was too low indicating hyperthyroidism (no history of that either). Since we all know there is a direct relationship between thyroid and AFIB, this could explain the recent reoccurrence of my AFIB. I'll keep you all up to date, I don't recall anyone here reporting on Thyroid and AFIB personally, but there's lots in the literature on it.

IMO: Get a second opinion.

I agree with Paul on the Thyroid stuff.

I believe this is a sleeper/overlooked in many cases.

I'm not sure how I stand in this area but I would like to know sometime soon.
