Glad things worked out for you both. Especially your wife. When/if the new pradaxa antidote is approved and available to all it will no doubt be a god-send as we all know this is one of the main/ongoing controversies surrounding the use of this product. ;)

On a personal note, I sincerely hope (knock on wood) that I can avoid the use of a/any pradaxa-like products as I inevitably cut myself way too often. To the point that buying band-aids has become a part of the weekly "to buy" shopping list - every week.

I have cut myself on Pradaxa. Folks, apply pressure if it is a bad cut. It will coagulate. I have been cut and healed at least 30 times in 2 years. Don't over react. If a person is on Coumadin or Aspirin they will bleed more also. Coumadin is slightly worse than Pradaxa. If you don't get to a hospital, chewing on spinach ain't gonna help.

Petey, is there anything we can put on a cut or bleeding to make it coagulate? It would not take care of bad things I know but smaller things. Pressure is good. I had popped open and bleed from the INR test. I tell them I am a bleeder. I have had it pop open 2 hours after the test. Here I am having no trouble way they do it. They pressure it then a small round bandaid and I do not think they jab so deep. I wear the bandaid for 24 hours. I was bleeder before taking warfarin. Lab does a good job for me. Clinic here woud not put anything but had a wad of cotton to hold to it. Then I would put the bandaid on at home to be more sure. I carried one in case. I try to be very clareful to not cut me.

My husband said that he saw something like a cream or ointment that covers the wound and helps to stop the bleeding made especially for people on blood thinners. I forget the name of it.....

I used to use super glue on my self. I make knives for a hobby. The doctor got on to me for using the glue so we got something I think is call new skin. It smells like finger nail polish. It does a good job if it will dry before you start bleeding again. That is the problem the new shin takes a few minuates to dry. I still pefer the super glue but my doctor looks at my hands now so no more super glue.

Petey it has been a long time since I have seen styptic. The good it works. The bad, well you know. Today doctor's appt. to change to Xarelto. The EP and hematologist seem to prefer this drug over Pradaxa. I think it is due to the stomach upsets complaints and once a day dosing. I guess I will get my wife a medical alert bracelet with the name of the blood thinner she is on. I have six unopened bottles of pradaxa that I am not going to throw away though. I am going to talk to the owner of the drug store and ask him to give it to someone who can't afford it. He has done it before with lovenox for me.

Xarelto is good and similar to Pradax... plus it is once a day and it doesn't contain an acidic base (necessary for Pradaxa to be absorbed by the body). petey

If you get a bleeding cut, find the most sterile cloth near by and wrap the cut and hold a firm presssure or compression on it for 15 minutes. ...NO PEAKING for 15 min. If possible hold the cut place above your heart.

ONLY After 15 min. peak...it should have stopped bleeding, if not reapply compression and hold for another 15 mins. NO PEAKING.

This should do it. If not or if it is spurting..like an artery, we need the help of ER. =^..^=

I just read the ad along side this forum and it says donot take Pradaxa if you have adnormal bleeding. Guess that is me. I read some where older ones they don't give but I don't think that is so. Ones in 70's get it. I told the doctor atthe time he wanted me to start warfarin I was a bleeder and that did not matter, It seems they start with warfarin.

I have a finger cracked open, just tiny spot really but hurt so. It popped open yesterday evening and bleeding.

I have thought maybe I should have a ID thing on me. Do the rest of you wear an ID thing. I have been carrying a piece of paper with my name and on warfarin and so on on it. So I now have it a little plastic thing. On out side I out a stick on label says ID, In pocket . Most times I do carry a cell phone the kids got me to call them if I need help. They got for me. If I drop dead I can phone them.

I wear one. I think it is from American Medical ID.

Finally got the Xarelto. They are little compared to Pradaxa. Tomorrow my wife takes her first on. Hope she does better at swallowing these compared to the Pradaxa. The Hematologist along with the EP seem to like Xarelto compared to Pradaxa. The stomach pains have been the main drawback for her on the Pradaxa. We will see how she tolerates it in a few days.

I've heard about something called Wound Seal to stop bleeding. It's sold at Walgreens and also on Amazon. It sounds similar to Celox. I haven't tried either one myself (yet).
