possible gastro bleeding

My dr. has taken me off coumadin because I had blood in my mouth 2X and is researching the other anticoagulants - this makes me nervous because I feel safer getting INR checked once a month. This month it was up to 3 which it nev er has been - so he said to do INR again in 2 weeks - that was before I told him about the bleeding issue. Now I am scared that he will change me to one of those new ones and my cardiologist is away for two weeks.

anyone on the newer drugs?

I should have been clearer about the blood - it was in my mouth in the morning - brown - ugh sorry disgusting topic!

Pam: I've been taking Pradaxa for 3 1/2 years. No problems. I'm afraid to take Coumadin. I'm used to Pradaxa. that's what it comes down to. In reality, none of them should scare you more than another. Did anyone notice the lawyer advertisements to sue the Xarelto manufacturer started this week on television? petey

Hi Pam, Have you had Any dental issues? Dry Mouth? Gingivitis? Nose bleeds? Since it is brown blood, it is old blood....could it posssibly be from brushing your teeth at night?

My cardiologist took me off aspirin and put me on Eliquis, 5 mg BID (twice a day). He said it had a better safety profile than coumadin plus no blood tests and you can eat whatever. I've been on it for 4 weeks now and I have not noticed anything. It also has a 32% less chance of bleeding compared to coumadin.

thanks everyone - not dental - history of peptic ulcers - priumary wanted me to stop coumadin until seeing gastro dr and cardio said take the coumadin lol so I am taking the coumadin and seeing the gastro dr on Fri. 6 to one half doz the other!
