Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group

Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

I am celebrating my one year anniversary! I had my ablation on Feb. 2 of last year and came home from the hospital on the 5th. Hooray! I am so far afib free. I am so grateful. Life was pretty miserable before. The quality of life for me is soooooo much better!!!! I just wanted to share my joy.

I spoke to the nurse at the clinic at the UW on Friday to get the results of the monitor I wore for two weeks. She said there was NO afib. I did have some sinus tachycardia (fast heart beat - about 110). She told me that it was probably because of the tea I had been drinking. I stopped drinking the green tea and have had no more tachycardia. No afib is something to celebrate. Not drinking tea or coffee is a small price to pay.

It's like hearing a really good, heart warming story on the six o'clock news! It doesn't happen every day. Very happy for your successful ablation. It means there is a light at the end of the tunnel or chunnel if you happen to be in England. Does your EP have any openings?

As a newbe to the group, I am so glad to here that it's worked for you. I've been suffering from afib since, of all days, Mothers day 2008. They got me back in rythem with sotolol. Then a little over a year later, here we go again. But that time they coulnt het it back in rythem with the meds, so I got the "shock" treatment. That lasted for maybe 11 months, then Oct 11 of last year again. It was weird because it always happened late on Sunday night, except the last time in Oct. 4 in the morning. Fast forward to Jan 14 of this year but I didn't go to the ER this time. Went back in in a couple days. But this last Monday around 11:15pm it hit again. I'm in and out of rythem. Just hope I don't need the shock treatment again. My wife and I were without insurance since Oct 2008 when she got laid off, but we have finnally for some insurance again, just hope the docs can work around the 6 month pfe existing condition clause so I can get my ablation

I am very happy that it's working good for you. The doc says that they have an 85% success rate with it now.
