Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Almost 3 months passed from my ablation, and the EP decided to take me off the Coumadin after extensive monitoring and an echocardiogram.
I am going to celebrate, of course not getting smashed but with a big salad! Only drug left is Metoprolol, that does not bother me at all.

BTW I checked with my doc about reduced dosage Warfarin. He was aginst it.
I do think that blood thinners have their own risks, but I certainly don't want another stroke. My PCP agrees with me. Sometimes I think we are cursed if we do and cursed if we don't. We can second guess ourselves on anything.
ecofr, I am intrigued by the Zio-Patch - does this take the place of a monitor? My EP wants me on a 24 hr monitor 2/3 times a year. Tell me more.

Zio-patch is a 24hr monitor. I tried other monitors and for me is the easiest to wear. The only limitation is that you can't send daily info to the monitor center, but after 2 weeks you send it to the Zio-patch company and the doc who ordered it gets a report one week later. In my case, and probably in yours, that's ok.
Petey, I asked my doc about about reduced protection/risk.
He said aspirin has now been discredited as a mild anticoagulant for Afib (you said that in one of your posts), and reduced warfarin does not work.
What's stunning is that aspirin has been prescribed millions of times over decades as a mild anticoagulant for Afib. It makes you wonder about the validity of much of medical drug "wisdom".
I hear you loud and clear. They only use 10mg Xarelto for deep vein thrombosis 20 for AFIB .
What about the Lariet procedure and the newer Watcman they are still testing. Id be willing to eventually get one of those procedures. A successful ablation should knock out CHADS score would be logical too? Yea a watered down apixaban would be safer
It's too early to say that your ablation did not work.
You may still be in the "blanking" period.
I had some short episodes of atrial tachycardia (not afib) for two months post ablation.
