Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

hey guys! I take Flecainide, Xareleto, Bystolic, ramipril and synthroid. I have friends coming from out of town and we are going to dinner and drinks tonight. I was going to have a couple N/A beers.....i know its a silly question but do you think its safe??

I don't know about the non-alcoholic beer, but if the non-alcoholic wine is any indication it will taste really undrinkable! I drink Perrier water and pretend it is white wine.
The main thing here is to enjoy the evening and not worry about afib, so I would forgo the beer if you are leery of it.

I find Beck's NA to be a reasonably pleasant beverage. Also Clausthaler Amber - Die Beide sind alles was ein Bier braucht. in other words they are both good. I have been drinking them since the beginning of my life as an afibber. Kein Problem as they say in the old country. LOL Spell check is having a real problem with my German. They go really well with pistachios. :)

I should add that I take Flecainide,Metorpolol and Coumadin. I do not know if the trace alcohol in the NA beers will interact with your meds. Drugs.com or your pharmacist are good resources for food-drug interactions.

hmmmm...I had 4 Odouls and got a horrid headache....not sure what the cause was but it really wasn't worth it (lol). I woke up in the middle of the night with a racing heart. But "racing" for me now is anything over like 70 or 80 bpm since it is usually 48-55 bpm now with the meds. Yesterday was super stressful too so maybe that had something to do with it who knows. Thanks for all of the input though :)

Sorry your night ended with the headache Angie. Some people including myself will develop sensitivity to sulfites. Back when I was drinking beer and wine I started getting headaches. I noticed when I switched from light beer to regular beer the headaches stopped. My brother had the same experience. I believe that sulfites are found at higher levels in light beer, it could be that non-alcoholic beers have high levels as well. Unfortunately there are no sulfite-free beer and wines so eliminating sulfites at cocktail time would require eliminating the beer and wine. Sensitivity can occur at any time in life but it's most common for it to start in the 40s and 50s. Occasionally I miss a good cold beer but after almost three years I don't think much about alcohol anymore. That's something I never could have imagined 5 years ago. :-)

I hope your feeling better Angie.
Steve - I'm fortunate that my sensitivities to alcohol didn't start until well into my 70"s.
Even with knowing AF will probably visit me in the early AM hours on special occasions, especially Birthday's, I go for it.
Last month we celebrated my 79th Birthday with Champagne.
Life expectancy for those born in 1934 is 78. Now my life expectancy @ 79 is 89 hopefully.
