Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Welcome to the group. Very interesting reading your research. Your regimen and diet are unique as to the treatment of afib, but might be worth a try. Thanks for sharing.

Don't waste your time. All he is saying is eat a specific diet that can't be quantified (and that he doesn't identify) because everyone is different.
afibbers.org has a lot of that stuff.

Face it. You have afib and it is most likely genetic. Why wouldn't a high percentage of vegetarians have afib? A good diet and moderate exercise will likely lessen episodes for some people with specific triggers and not being dehydrated or extreme in any behaviors... but the bottom line is there are no miracle cures here and the "research" is subjective and only tested on 1 or maybe 2 people.

"Specific details of my protocol/diet
Summary: 25,000 IU of vitamin D3/week; 500 g of cranberries/day; calcium as below.
Calcium: My routine current intake is very close to 480 mg per day.
Since eggs contain a reasonable amount of calcium, and I eat quite a few eggs each day. (he eats other high calcium foods);
Cranberries: We buy 1kg packs of frozen cranberries and I eat half a packet per day.
I blend them every morning with other fruits and veggies, and consume the delicious smoothie through the day.
Other dietary details: All caffeinated drinks and chocolate are avoided. Substituting caffeine with decaf was very easy and gave noticeably better energy levels once adjusted to it. Chocolate abstinence is hard, but any sane afibber has to be off both, and this is well documented.
I consume no added salt beyond that naturally in my eggs and large seafood intake (both have quite significant sodium content) and other foods, but I have never noted a connection between varying salt intake and atrial fibrillation.
I consume considerably more animal protein than previously, and observed reductions in ectopics with that change, but the effect was not as pronounced as with the calcium, vitamin D and cranberries.
Alcohol is not routinely consumed, but again, minor digression is not a problem."
He does seem to have been very thorough about searching for what works tho. And he says that he uses the cranberrys instead of lots of meat because theyre acidifieing like the meat but without the bad health effects of too much meat. He says the other things like caffeine, salt, alcohol, dont make much difference to him he's just mentioning them. So its basically just what you said just low Calcium, high Vitamin D and lots of Cranberrys. Which sounds pretty easy, so I might give it a try.
Much as I would love a treatment that would get me off the drugs and out of potential danger (of stroke or heart attack) I don't see this as something I will try.
IF he had reversed A-fib with this I might be interested in trying it...... but I will err on the side of caution and see what my next cardiologist visit brings!
I do hate drugs BTW but the alternatives could be a lot worse!
You know I love you like a brother but you have to explain this:
Chocolate abstinence is hard, but any sane afibber has to be off both, and this is well documented.
And can you provide the documentation you speak of? I've NEVER had issues with chocolate and I consumed a lot of it prior to losing all of my weight. Even today I'll have 1/2 an ounce of 72% dark chocolate every single day with my yogurt.
I think you're off your rocker on this one... but I'm willing to be enlightened with your explanation and documentation:)
Travis
Thankfully, that was a quote regarding chocolate from Turnj who quoted afibbers.org . So I didn't say anything about chocolate. :-) Actually, I believe it is better to eat dark chocolate in small amounts, from what I have read, then to abstain.
Travis, every time I see your first name, I think of country music. I'm from New Jersey and I am used to names like Anthony, btw. So anyway, when you had your ablation in Texas, I couldn't help picturing you at a microphone with a guitar, cowboy hat and boots, getting ready to sing, saying...
"Hi y'all. My name is Travis 'Shootin' Van Slootin' and I just got back from Texas where I had an "ablashun" from this "Eye-towel-yun" guy named Andrea... so I'd like to dedicate my first two songs to him... 'A Boy Named Sue' and 'Achy Breaky Heart'... ok, here we go y'all... a one, two three, four...".
Ha!
