Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Sorry you had to join us but welcome!

I think I waited too long to see an EP. I would encourage you not to wait. An EP is like an electrician for your heart. And that is where the problem is with a fib. I feel like my EP found the right meds for me and gave me back my life...at least for now.
annette, it seems i self convert too. maybe i can get off the diltiazem. i will talk to my doctor about that. i don't like taking anything that isn't absolutely necessary.
hi terry.. i'm glad you too found this site and that it has helped you so much. i'm going to look into the benefits of magnesium.
petey.. what meds are you on?
kelly.. thanks for the welcome. its good to know i can keep going during afib. these are the kind of things my doctor hasn't told me.
marikay.. i will check with her about the EP. I belong to Kaiser and am not sure if that is part of their staffing. does anyone else here see an EP?
steve.. i'll go look for the discussions topic. i'm gingerly learning my way around here.. on a need-to-know basis.
Welcome to this forum. As has been said, no one wants to have a fib, but it's great to get important info and also reassurance. This forum does both very well.
You have received a lot of good advice already. Feel free to ask any questions.
I think your not being a worrier is a HUGE advantage. Many of us, me included, are worriers and that seems to be a definite trigger for a fib.
I started a fib Sept of 2011, was put on about 4 drugs and failed them all. Thus I had an ablation in March, 2012. I still have abnormal beats, but the a fib is a lot better than before.
As for your question about exercise, I was told by my cardiologist NOT to exercise while in a fib. That was because my heart rate went sky high and he was afraid with exercise, it would be too fast.
I would highly suggest you get an EP also-Electrophysiologist. I have found the knowledge base between a regular cardiologist and an EP is a LOT!! It's almost like another specialty. THe sooner you get one, the more answers you will have about your a fib.
Good luck!
gram.. i see you are as new here as me. hope you benefit from hearing what others have gone thru. i know it has already helped me. good luck & good health to you. i hope you came out of your bad episode ok. as for Coreg, i have never heard of it. but then a lot of this stuff is new for me.
heart.. thanks for the welcome. i will look into the EP and check with my doctor to see if my HMO (Kaiser Permanente) does them. as for exercise, i would not do that while in Afib. but i want to be active, e.g. not just sitting and resting my way thru it. by active, i mean going about my normal chores and light activity. all i can do is try and see what happens.. and be ready to sit down if need be. glad the ablation worked for you.. at least to get some relief.
