I've heard that the Cleveland Clinic is the best but there are other places that do ablations all day. The rule of thumb is to find an EP that has done a lot of them and before you pick one for your ablation to ask him how many he's done so far. I'm not a candidate for ablation but I've been to an EP. To be honest I didn't really like his abrupt manner. Couldn't even ask any questions. He's the kind you DON'T want. Good luck.

I had mine done at Geisinger Heart Clinic in Danville PA, but had a consultation at Cleveland Clinic and they reviewed all of the data from the first one and said that they were doing everything correctly. Many are suggesting cryo-ablation, and I know that the Mayo Clinic is top-notch as well. Check their websites as well as A-fib.com! Best of luck!

Just had an ablation 3 weeks ago at the Cleveland Clinic. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I was battling AFIB for about 3 years, the first year and a half didn't know what it was. THen they put me on beta blockers which didn't help too much. Then went to the Cleveland Clinic and they put me on Tiksoyn hoping that would work. Not! So I said give me the ablation. I had to wait 4 months to get the procedure because of how many they do. It really does not hurt and they give you meds to relax you, which they call a twilight sleep. I was only in the hospital one night. So far (knock on wood) I am doing okay and glad I did it.
I do not drink alchol, caffine or smoke. I hope you get some good results, but maybe you can try the tiksoyn first, some people really do well on it. My episodes use to last anywhere from 3 to 10 hours about once every 10 days. Good luck and sorry you have to go thru this but there are so many people in our position.

I live in just north of San Francisco and am fortunate to have an EP dr and facility close by. Both were highly recommended. When I was in the hospital before my procedure, the nursing staff all said he was great. I sometimes think the nurses have a better feel of the good doctors where most doctors are pretty protective of each other.

My second choice would have been Stanford. I know a few who have gone there and again, felt they were in good "hands".

Ask around and then research them. Who ever does it should be up on on the latest procedures and should be doing a lot of them. Look to see their success rates too.

My EP does not have the best personality and is not warm and fuzzy, but his creditials were the best.

My first few weeks were rough after the procedure and I still had a few episodes into the 4th week, but last 2 weeks have been really good and I no limitations on my activities.

I went to NYPresbyterian/Cornell Hospital and it was excellent. They have a number of EP's. I Had Dr. Liu, who I really liked. I recommend them.

(NYPresbyterianCornell is where Pres. Clinton has his cardiac treatments; the staff is great and the hospital rooms have great view over East River!) I had ablation almost 2 yrs ago and am fine.

My sister had hers done at the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service at Brigham and Womens Hospital. She was extremely happy with the doctors and the personalized care she received there. It is internationally recognized for treating all types of arrhythmias, including the most complex ones. The great thing there is that many of the doctors at their cardiovascular wellness center are on the Harvard faculty and are leading researchers in electrophysiology. They perform about 2,000 procedures annually so they are very well experienced.
