Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Sorry to hear that you are going through such a stressful time. Like others, I believe that stress is a major contributor to our condition.
In my case, i consistently had irregular rhythms in the evenings. Of course, when i went to the DR office, I was always in NSR.
Against the advice of others, i purchased a portable 3-lead EKG machine. Being a visual person, it helps me see what I'm feeling. Also it is very accurate as I've calibrated it against medical grade equipment. Most importantly, it allows me to show the DR exactly what I'm feeling.
In my case I have been extremely worried about VTACH, as i had a few instances when last in the hospital. Using the device, i was able to capture alot of data, let them look at it, and let me know it wasn't VTACH or any other significant concern (that wasn't already known).
While the newness (of the device) has worn off, i will be wearing the 3 EKG patches everywhere of the next month. No i'm not obsessed but want to gather the most data I can post-ablation (#3) to take to the DRs on the next office visit. What I currently see is a normal 'p-wave' which wasn't present before. Again a positive confidence-builder.
