Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Just wanted to say thanks to all of the taxpayers on the site....Army Reserve is sending me for 3 weeks of French immersion training to Montpellier, France. Sometimes ya just gotta LOVE the military! This is my last one, since I turn 60 in December and they are booting me. I got 39 great years in, so I cannot complain.
The family I am staying with in France is headed by a nutritionist. I told her I was the "typical" American...you know, big, loud, overweight. So she said that she will put me on the Mediterranean diet for 3 weeks...so hopefully I will come back healthy and a teensy bit tinier...not TOO tiny probably, since France makes THE best desserts in the world!
I leave tomorrow morning...so will talk to you all after Memorial Day weekend!

Yes, I understand there was some discussion at the higher headquarters about this...actually, they didn't want to send me LAST year cuz I was so close to 60...so this is a real blessing for me..but perhaps not for the taxpayers.

Thanks to all and I will file a report when I get back..hopefully a few pounds lighter and with some better eating habits! Although the wife and I did go to DQ yesterday...as a parting gift from America. Sigh...

Just got back to work after returning from la belle France! And I must tell you all, you MUST put Montpellier on your list of places to visit next time you are in the South of France! I couldn't give any updates, cuz I am THE last person in the world without a smartphone and the house where I stayed didn't have a computer, cuz the house mother DID use a smartphone as her computer..a truly amazing world we live in!
The GOOD, the BAD, the UGLY:
Let's start with the UGLY - French grammar! I am a complete zero in ENGLISH grammar, and French grammar is worse...so the first hour of class each day was pure heck for the old guy.
The BAD - I stayed in a 5 bedroom apartment on the 4th floor...no elevator...so the first day, after 24 hours on the plane, I climb 4 flights of stairs with heavy luggage..the bad knee blows up, as does the ankle. The swelling for the knee went down, but not the ankle....so 3 weeks of hobbling around just a bit. And for some reason, they don't use screens in the windows, which means MOSQUITOS in the room at night! Not every night, but it just takes one to annoy you. Also, 4 students in the apartment, one shower. Had to share the shower with two women..last year in Bordeaux, had my own spa bathroom, this yearI have to share with two women? NOT COOL!
The GOOD - Ummm....I know this makes me the "creepy old guy," but the two women I was forced to share the shower with were a 21 year old Swiss nurse and a 25 year old German doctor, both gorgeous...so watching them go into the bathroom every morning wearing nothing but an itty bitty towel...well, it made the mornings a pleasant time. And they were both just wonderfully nice people.
I stayed with a nutritionist while I was there...lost 10 pounds the first week...so APPARENTLY there is some connection between the food you eat and weight..sadly, the second week my appetite came back....regained 6 of the 10 pounds. Have you ever eaten crme brulee au chocolat? I have had DREMS about that the past several weeks! Did have two little "spells," which were probably related to emotion. Once sitting in the square at a caf looking around and taking all the beauty in, and the last day of class when I was understandably sad...but both lasted about 10 seconds.
Now, back to the REAL world...sigh....

Ive never had crme brle au chocolat, just the regular kind. Crunchy and smooth at the same time, mmmm! Special.

Look at it this way...there are a lot of serious threats to national security out there....now, if the US is invaded by thousands and thousands of beautiful young Swiss girls, don't you feel safer knowing that I am here to speak to them in French and beg them to go out to lunch with me?
