I dont think you can get much benefit by ingesting it. The study was about intravenous application.

O.K. so the article said to avoid magnesium oxide (highlighted) which is what I have, It doesn't say why. also, post ablation, I'm on a blood thinner. I was taking 500 mg, a night before my testing started, and my blood levels are pretty stable, but the article says to avoid magnesium if you're on blood thinners. I bet that there are a lot of people on this forum on blood thinners.

I'm sceptical anyway, yet I take a magnesium supplement. I also eat a lot of high magnesium foods, as this article informs me. but as to the science behind all this? who knows.

Maybe I should stop taking magnesium because of being on warfarin? but then my dosage might change? sheesh....

Well, everyone, sad to say it was too good to be true: am back in afib, and--at this point--fully commited/resigned to the ablation in mid-July. I don't know why it worked so great for 3 days, and I have no idea why it stopped. Oh well. Thanks for all the feedback & input ! Best, Dave A.

Dave, Im not sure how long youve had afib, but Im guessing much longer than youve taken Mag? If anyone takes supplement(s) and has the expectation of effectiveness of a prescribed drug, they will be sorely disappointed. No quick fix here. Mag can take months to be effective, stored in tissue not blood. Plus, Im not a big fan of Calm, its a very basic Mag supp, ok, but there are better. Mag works well in conjunction with other supps, such as Vit C, A and D, Taurine, Zinc, COQ10, B12 and some others. Finding the right combination is a challenge because were all different and have diverse life styles. I have no doubt if you find this, it would work, however you most likely dont have enough time at this point. Taking supplements can only help your upcoming surgery and beyond. Best wishes.

I wanted to point out that vitamins and minerals are not regulated in the US, so you may be taking a sugar pill and not know it which is why it may not work. There is an online group that tests these things. It's very cheap to join and get their results. I used to be a member, and I'm planning on joining again. They're very good. I think they are called consumer labs.

Sorry to hear about your recurrence of afib. It sucks but at least it happened before you canceled your ablation and not afterwards. As I said, your experience sounds similar to mine and I go in for ablation in 3 days.
I'd still stick with the supplements if I were you. I'm think they fo help and there's little to no harm that can come from magnesium.

That's fantastic!! There surely is something to MG and PO consumption/supplements!! All the best! I've been taking both every day for a while now as well as trying to eat foods high in both minerals each week. ;)

Don't look back. That's all I have to say:) An ablation is your best shot at beating afib. I've never heard of anyone curing their afib with supplements so don't be fooled by a temporary lull. Don't get me wrong, supplements "help" and I strongly recommend them but don't rely on them 100% to treat/cure your afib. It's just not going to happen.
