Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Its a tough call about cancelling an ablation. I know before my first ablation I had a quieter phase and started to second guess my decision to ablate (that seems to happen to a lot of people). I stuck it out and although the ablation failed Im glad I had it otherwise I would be kicking myself thinking if only. If your EP expressed a high possibility of success in your case I would carefully weigh a decision to cancel.
I hope this helps,

I had a very similar experience in April 2013. I had an ablation scheduled for June and I ended up cancelling it because things calmed right down.
At the time I attributed it to diet and supplements, including magnesium, but about 4-5 months later it fired up again and nothing I could do nutritionally could stop it so I went on daily dose Propafenone. That worked for 14 months until I started getting side effects.
When I stopped taking it 3 months ago I booked an ablation (for next Monday!) and initially things calmed down again. In the last 2-3 weeks, however it's been as bad or worse than ever.
My point is that magnesium and other supplements are an important element and should likely be continued even after ablation. I don't know that they provide the longer term treatment that ablation does, however. At least not for me.
Then again, ask me next week what I think.
