I decided to start this topic since there have been some posts recently from members without health insurance. I want to let everyone know about a resource most people are not aware of.

I am a nurse in a federally qualified health center (FQHC). We provide health care for the uninsured and underinsured. There are many FQHCs throughout the country. There is probably one reasonably close to most of you.
If you have no insurance our clinic provides a sliding fee scale..reduced fee based on income. For someone at the lowest income level an office visit is $10 and a prescription is $7 (generic common meds).
Our clinic offers many comprehensive services. You can see your PCP for well-care and chronic disease care, you can walk in for urgent care (like a cough, earache, etc), you can see a nurse midwife---they are awesome and supervised by physicians, your children can be seen for well-child care and immunizations. You can receive healthy lifestyle education, and counseling services. We help obtain medications through patient assistance programs from many drug companies. We make referrals to many speciality providers and they often provide their services at a reduced fee.
I am proud of the services we offer and believe that our patients get exceptional care.
So....if you have no insurance an FQHC can be a lifesaver. Obviously we don't do ablations or have EP's on staff, but we can help with many of your needs.
