Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I hear you. I tend to worry about the worst might happen. It is better to have a positive outlook. Then your life will be happier all around!!
You guys are right... I always can comfort others but never myself because I tend to think negative when it comes to me... Positive for others! :(
I need to focus on the wonderful things in my life and positive things will happen.
Ironically, when i got home from work tonight, I logged on to facebook and noticed a series of posts about a friends son that was in the hospital. When I started reading further, it became apparent that he had an ablation yesterday and it didn't go as planned. I guess he has SVT and after a 3 to 4 hour proceedure, they had to stop because he was getting restless. From th esounds of things, maybe he wasn't completely put out like i am going to be. In any event, he still was in SVT...
One more thing to make me worry but God knows I'm trying!
Let me know your thoughts... why do they not put everyone completely out?
Jim
I hope you will be able to focus your mind on positive things while you wait for your ablation. Many years ago I was taught to designate a certain time of the day as my "worry" time. Only during this short period of the day was I allowed to focus on whatever worried me. For the rest of the day, whenever the anxious thoughts came up, I was to quickly think of something pleasant . It was difficult at first, but I learned not to worry about things in the future. It was very helpful when I waited for my ablation.
I know you will be just fine and just think how great NSR will be while you hold your brand new little granddaughter.
Best wishes and many blessings
Dee
Any other time of the day, I am going to challenge the fears as they only make the AFIB more pronounced!
Thank you for taking the time to help me once again! It truly helps!

Jim: As a person that has been through it twice, I understand your anxiety completely. I am not someone that likes to take meds, but I got a script for xanax a couple of weeks before the first ablation, and it helped tremendously. (Especillay at night when the mind wanders.) I do not have a script for it anymore, nore do I want one. It just helped me for that time. Do keep yourself busy as others have recommended. Also, if you can, plan a "me day" and get a massage or do something that you find relaxing. Good luck!
You are getting a lot of great advice from yogacat, Sanibel, RN52 and everyone. Take it to heart. No pun intended.
I think I was one of the very few who was under conscious sedation, not totally out. My doc said he didn't want me under general anesthesia for such a long time. Mine took about 8 hrs. But many on this forum were out under general for just as long. I gotta say , the thought of being "semi-awake" caused me a TON of anxiety beforehand. So since you will be totally out, that is a huge thing not to be concerned about beforehand. Each doc is different, not only in their anesthesia but in many of the procedures. You have to follow your trust in your doc. As yogacat said, "Let go, let God". That is so true.
From one control person to another, you can't control this particular situation, so you will just need to let that go to help alleviate your anxiety. Easy to say, i know...
As a last resort, try these 2 websites. Only use these as a last resort. This is serious.
I don't recommend anyone else look at these websites. They are only to be used in your darkest moments.
