Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group

Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

After fighting it for 4 years I had an ablation done last week(tuesday) Well of course I went into afib 3 days later and again 5 days later, now I will say I went to my 12yr old daughters softball practice before the second time, helped out and went into it right afterwards. I had it done 7 days ago and for the most part feel good, the thing is, when I start to do things that take some effort I start to feel funny, get a little lite headed sometimes and bit of an ache in my chest, even short of breath. So what is the deal, a week should be enough right? I am 47yrs old 6' 200lbs.

I had my ablation March 8 and have been feeling all the systems expressed here. I was not prepared to be so beat up after the procedure (black and blue, sore, achey, rashes from the antiseptic, etc). I have had at least 4 episodes of AF since the ablation and 1 episode 4 days ago of a very rapid heart beat that brought me to the ER. I have not any episode since. I was told in the ER that this is common because of the irritation in my heart. I am a little down, but after reading all the comments are encouraged that this may be normal and not an indication of a failure of the ablation.

I am heading into week 4 after my ablation. I am still not feeling good and having episodes that last almost a day in length and about every other day. My drs appointment is next week and I have a lot of questions for him, including, why does this feel worse.

I hope we all feel better soon.

Well, I think I rounded a corner. I had my appointment with the EP dr and all is going well. He said that it is very common to have all the episodes I have had. He said that they will not know if it is successful for about 4 - 6 months. If I have anymore episodes, they should be getting shorter.

My chest hurt still, but he said to take motrin. I am feeling better and am hopeful that this will be successful.

Just awesome. It is so exciting following your great progress. I can feel your excitement in your last entries and it give me confidence. When my time comes for an ablation attempt I will feed on your experience. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you all the best in the coming weeks......

Ya, I am starting to feel better myself, I think it must have just taked more out of me than I thought it would, I should have taked it easy a bit longer, at 47 I'm not going to heal as fast.

This string of comments gives me hope. I had my ablation Mar 10 and experienced much of what you did. At least I have able to stay very active in between episodes of Afib. Let's hope this pesky thing goes away forever (ok, for at least 5 years which is what some research says). Thanks for everyone sharing their experiences.

I think I identify most with this site. I am on week 6 after my ablation and I have had every side effect or episodes that is available. I keep saying I have turned a corner. If I turn anymore corners I will be going around in circles.

So many of the comments here are so like my own experience and they give me hope. May we all be successful.

Keep the faith, I had mine done on Feb 22, I was a mess untill about 3 wks ago. I am afib free now.

I had open heart surgery 50 years ago next summer. I have had a/f for
at least 1o years. But I believe I have had it for 25 years. My cardo dr advises me to do nothing yet, new procedures that are out are not that good for the patient. Just wait I guess
