Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
It always hits me when I'm falling asleep or sleeping. My average start time (I keep a diary) is around 0230 am. Lasts for 10-26 hours, usually twice a month. I only went to the ER once and that was in May, my first episode. I was put on beta blocker, every day, but, makes me very tired. Now, I use the BB as a PIP. Also in the early stages of using Flecanaide as a PIP, we shall see.
When I go into full blown afib, I've seen different actions have different effects.
If I take 150mg of Rythmol, it may take 3 to 5 hours to get back to normal.
If I take 300mg of Rythmol it may take 2 to 4 hours to get back to normal. Sometimes I've needed another 150 mg after 4 hours if the first 300mg didn't do the job.
If I take 300mg of Rythmol, pico magnesium, 2 vit B complex and Nux Vomica, I can be back in normal rythm in 1 hour. If I don't take anything,
I've been 6 hours in afib trying to see if it would go away without treatment,so I've always taken something.
I use the pill as needed method, otherwise I don't take any medications at all.
I do take lots of supplements, however. Ginko Biloba and Cod Liver Oil for blood thinners, Vit B complex, Salmon oil, CoQ10, Multi-vitamins, Vit E & C, pico magnesium and trace minerals.
Sending healing, soothing thoughts your way.
