Hello Weld: Success is measured in many different ways with ablation. If she feels better than she has in 3 years, I would definitely count that is a form of success. Sometimes, ablation does not cure the Afib but will control the symptoms. Also, the rhythm or abnormality that the monitor picked up may not be Afib. The monitors are designed to pick up PACs, short runs of tachycardia and other rate/rhythm issues with the heart. Please do not be hard on yourself. You and your wife made this decision after very careful thought and research. If she is feeling much better, you have every reason to be optimistic that things will continue to improve. A second ablation may be needed and that is common since first ablation success rates are only around 70% (from my experience). The success rate of a second (from my experience) was explained to me to be between 80-90%. Please don't beat yourself up about this. We are all just learning as we go and we are not the experts on afib, but the patients. I hope everything turns out well with your wife.

I ask what that means... it's not like the lady couldn't pronounce afib... maybe it is something else like Carrie mentioned. These things don't automatically stop at 90-120 days for everyone... everyone heals differently. It is routine to check at 90 days though.

The doctor will have plenty of data to work with. the monitor will hold 4 abnormalities so after 4 my wife pushes it just so she can clear it out and call it in. This is getting to be a pain to call this in because we do not have a land line phone and have to find one every time we have to call data in which is everyday. I am going to call today and see if there is a different monitor which I know there is that comes with a satellite phone to call the data in. The last time the lady said my wife was having PAC. My wife told me she was not in afib but having premature ventricular beats. I did some research on the internet and found out that the monitor was only motoring the top of her heart so PVC was wrong. My wife feels fine and I did remind her the EP did say that one in three people needed a touch up ablation which she seems fine with. I hope it is just taking her longer to heal instead of another ablation.

After my ablation, I was sent home from the hospital with a 30 day monitor. I also had a 30 day monitor at the 3 month and 9 month post ablation. My EP's like to do this to check to make sure no "silent" a-fib is happening. My monitor went off alot during a 48 hour period and I was nervous that my a-fib returned. But, I was just have alot of PVC.s and PAC's. From what I understand, this is very, very common. I do not understand why that lady would tell you that. If there was anything major going on, or your wife's a-fib returned, you would have gotten a call from the monitoring company and/or your doctor.

Hi, I'm not going to read all the replies. I'm just going to tell you my story. First, I don't have a clue why after a failed ablation 3 mo. ago your wife was put on an event monitor. I'll be surprised if insurance pays for it honestly. What does the Dr. think? She is miraculously going to go into regular rhythm. You don't feel better after an ablation gone wrong, you feel exactly the same. I had my second ablation almost a yr. later and it was successful (1 mo. in NSR so far) and I'm wearing an event monitor. They make it go off in the Dr.'s office to check it's working. Someone in another room made mine go off for absolutely no reason, and then they send the results, just to make sure it works. I've had mine weeks now and it hasen't made a sound yet. I'm beginning to feel more and more confident in this ablation. Please question why they would put an event monitor on your wife? What earthly reason could they have, except to make money. Chances of a failed ablation converting to normal sinus rhythm after 3 mo. aren't even feasible. Ask some questions...especially of your insurance. Best of luck, and please don't give up. The second one was the one that worked for me, but you can be sure I changed doctors too. The first one left me with a collapsed lung and on oxygen.

Not everyone, lots of great info out there, but all too often in my experience~

There is also the possibility your wife went from A-Fib to A-Flutter, which is more easily cured. I think she thinks she is feeling better, but if she is still in A-Fib, I don't see how it's possible. *shrug* what do I know. Failed means she didn't stay in nomal sinus rhythm for very long, or they couldn't convert her, and that would only be if it was permanent.
