My heart rate was higher than normal after the ablation and gradually went down beginning a few days after the ablation. My heart rate increased by ~ 20 following the ablation. Now it's back to near pre-ablation rate.

Hmmm, I'm coming up to one week tomorrow. I hope it does come back to normal. Maybe my heart is not happy...
I think my HR went up by about 40.

My heart rate did go up (80-120) in the first week after my ablation. (Oct. 19)
Started Multaq and HR went back to 70's.
Was told to stop Multaq 2 weeks ago. So far, my heart rate has stayed in 70's.

There is no way your heart could be happy following an ablation. It's been burned or frozen and scarred forever. It needs time to get used to this and to heal. I imagine a higher heart rate is it's way of starting the process and reacting to the process.
I'll bet your EP expects this but to be certain maybe let him know?

No... no operation... it's just the side effect of Pradaxa.

When I had my first ablation (that was not successful) I ended up in the ER with a fast heart rate. I was told that this is common because your heart is irritated. It didn't happen to me after the second (and last) ablation, but it did happen when I was coming off Sotolol. My doctor told me that it was a rebound effect after being on it to 2 years. Interesting, Joan. I did ask the EP fellow on call today. He said the ablation can cause this, hopefully will return to normal in about 2 weeks. How high did yours get, Joan, if I may ask? Is it now coming back to normal?

My heart rate went up to 140 about 4 weeks after ablation and I was told it was from the ablation and coming off the Amiodarone. I was cardioverted and it has been running around 68 ever since. I've been doing well since.

Thak you. Yes it does affect a lot of things.
My pulse was 130-140 for 24 hrs before cardioversion. I was in and out of af. It felt like when you're trying to start your car and it wouldn't turn over, just sputters. Since then no symptoms.
The phrenic nerve thing is still a problem. It has not improved but I am seeing a pulmonologist-not at Hopkins. My abdominal muscles and L diaphragm muscles are compensating and the only time I notice symtoms is when I try to lay down or exert myself. Then I'm out of breath.
I am feeling better for the most part and the only problems I have now are psychological, meaning fear of it returning, not regaining my lung function etc. I just deal with it one day at a time which is like most of the rest of the world.

I know what you mean that this ablation thing can mess with your brain. makes you wonder how many things it has affected and will it get back to normal. I hope your phrenic nerve goes back to normal really soon!!
