Hi Angie, So sorry this is so awful tonight. I had 18 mos. of med. mild episodes..now mine are awful too.

Do you take PIP? if so, what? Are you paroxymal or persistant? How long do your episodes usually last?

When you go to ER what do they do for you?

It would seem that a PIP would be what you need. That and a Xanax.

i actually feel better now. i think i may have been having a slight bought of afib because i felt a pretty hard thump and then boom....i felt better....stupid afib....so tired of it and its only just begun...oy!

Glad to hear some good clear times are happening - give you a bit of space to forget the bad moments. I say this because I feel you need to forget the bad moments in order to keep your spirits up.

Yeah I know when I go to the ER all they do is charge me lots of money (lol) and usually give me cardizem. My dr has never discussed PIP with me but when i go in next month maybe it is something we need to discuss. I have only ever been told to go to the ER asap so it can be treated. No time frame of how long is safe to wait or anything....just "Go to the ER ASAP". Well newsflash, i can't afford that (lol). Anyway thanks again...hopefully today is a better day :)

I Know we are all quite different, different afib symptoms and doctors sure do vary on advice......

My Cardio Dr. told me Not to Go to ER!

Now, after my extraction, in my 8th day of afib, he told me to come into his office if I had not converted by Mon. (this was Sat.) I had mild symptoms and taken Pradaxa as directed. I converted several hrs. after talking to him~

I think the ONLY reason to go to the ER is that you need TWO on the record incidents of afib before they will do an ablation. I had only two...so was glad I had gone to the ER that second time, even though they did virtually nothing for me. The first visit, of course, was necessary, cuz the first time you go into afib you are SURE you are dying! And since I had no history of heart issues at that time, the paramedics were certainly going to rush a 57 year old dude to the hospital, cuz it could have been a heart attack or stroke coming on

Sorry to hear that you are having a hard...that seems like me all the time. You start to feel ok...then bam afib.
I was told not to go to ER unless my heart rate manitains above 140 for an extended period of time, I was told to continue with lopressor between my rountine doses of toprol xl and flecianide.
It is like riding a roller coaster with all the ups and downs twist and turns....physically and emotionally.

THis is the age old question, when to go to the ER. I don't think there is a "right " answer. Maybe when your anxiety is so high, you can't take it anymore??? I think one EP said if I don't convert on my own in 2 days. It also does matter how high your BP is as posters mentioned. I would think the one thing they could do for you is the conversion. nOt a happy thought...

Is your HR staying in a safe range when you are in afib? My Ep (who is fabulous!) told me that I am ok to stay home indefinitely as long as my HR is not consistently up over 120. I know it is uncomfortable and it really sucks and you really want it to end but it's ok as long as it's not running too high. I would def get a plan into place for an extra med to take when afib is lasting to loonnggg. If mine lasted 24 hours I would take an extra 25 mg metoprolol but only when i know that I wouldn't be going to sleep. If I converted while sleeping my HR might drop too low from all of the meds.

Anything to stay away from the hospital! Haha What medicines are you on again? And how old are you?

mine is typically 120-180 when i am in afib....so it is really fast and my bp goes up too so maybe thats why they tell me to go?

I agree with Kelly I was told the same thing, stay home as long as rate is maintianed below 120-140's
