Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

I am set to have an ablation for the afib on June 4. I would like to know what to expect after the surgery. Also have anyone noticed heart meds working differently after starting coumadin.

AFter knowing which ablation you are having, then those with that type of ablation can give you more specific advice.

I am having my first ablation tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes. Hopefully I'll be feeling better by the time you go in for your procedure!

Having had 2 ablations, i can recommend that you ask for liquid Tylenol before you leave the OR.

Didn't have it for my first one, and hurt for the next 18 hours... and besides, you're not supposed to move for the first 12.

Discussed with the team, about the pain. So on the 2nd one, they recommended a push of liquid Tylenol just before leaving the OR. Felt great, didn't need any pain meds, and was comfortable for the next 12 hours (that you can't move).

PS: DRs mentioned they used to give it routinely, but due to cost, cut it out. Well it was the best $50 or $500 i ever spent!
