Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Am I going on a wrong assumption believing that by just being on Warfarin I'm avoiding a stroke?
I know. NEVER ASSUME?
Joan, were there other reasons you decided on ablation.
So far for me AF is very manageable. I've accepted it and can live with it. I never did run marathons.
We are all so different.

I wish I could be that lucky in the lottery.
Btw, I too was having problems accessing the site and posting. Seems to be ok now.
Anticoagulants are VERY effective at preventing stroke if used properly (INR) or responsibly taking Pradaxa (can't be measured). Even if you have an ablation, your doctor will probably be cautious about keeping you on some kind of blood thinner because of recent revelations about silent afib after ablation. BTW, paroxysmal and persistent afib carry the same stroke risk. If your CHA2DS2VaSC score is low and you are on anticoagulants, you should be good. when you are 90, I can't guarantee anything.
shantima, I will work on my attitude after the surgery!!
