I think they work. In fact I have been drug-free for one year, and 14 months post ablation . In fact, I am sending my electrophysiologist a special Valentine treat: a heart-shaped stolen from Racine Kringle. .... now I still get mild episodes, mostly at night but nothing too extreme. And I jogged today a beautiful sunny warm winter day in St. Louis.. But after my first two ablations I actually was worse.

I can speak to the zombie feeling, not the ablation (did not have one). I am taking sotalol and find the following side effect occur frequently, fatigue and anxiety. They are known effects and have been told to try different meds to see if those are reduced. Haven't done so yet but will.

After having what the EP called a "very successful" cryo ablation last week, I can recommend the ablation procedure 100% for anyone who is a good candidate (i.e. your heart is structurally normal).

My case is probably not typical, but I've had zero arrhythmia since the surgery. A few blips of SVT caught by the monitors in the hospital directly after the procedure, but as of today, if I'm having any arrhythmia, I'm certainly not feeling it. And definitely no afib.

I've been able to half my dose of metoprolol, and hopefully will be off it completely in a few months. I've also stopped taking my blood pressure medicine all together.

In the past month or so, I've been doing the DASH diet and have lost almost 15 pounds, a trend which I expect to continue. I have a sleep study scheduled for the end of the month to test for sleep apnea, which I think will be the final piece of the puzzle.

So, ablation, performed by an experienced EP? Two thumbs way up.
