Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

It was a challenge to give up my 'identity' from my 28 yr. career, which I loved. I was diagnosed with afib a month after I retired. ( I did go part time ~ on call for 3 yrs before full retirement)
Since retirement, I have developed a Passion for Photography and recently for Painting with Acrylics. This beats working!!!!!
Most important, do what's right for your health!!
Sorry to hear you are having problems. I think its a good idea to adjust your lifestyle to your physical abilities. Im sure youll be able to find the perfect mix.
I hope you are doing better now.
Take care,
atp
I guess me and you are in the same boat...
I was diagnosed early March with a T1C prostate cancer... fast forward to a week ago, had surgery. I though since it was da Vinci and it would be just a few small incisions. About 6 are 1 inches long, and one more than 2 inches...
The main concern was that the surgery would send me into AFIB. Had surgery last TH which went very well. They captured one 6 second episode of what many thought were VTACH; however, EP concluded it was only ATACH. Discharged on Friday.
Over the weekend, saw that my HR was speeding up to +120 HR but in NSR. Another night and I was in full-blown AFIB. Went to the ER on Monday and was admitted. Took significant time and drugs to get my BP to be 100 over 60... finally was electro cardio verted Tuesday afternoon. Back in NSR and home Tuesday evening...
Between surgery and AFIB, it feels like I ran a half-marathon but have not taken the first steps...
I have not retired (yet) but hope to do sometime in 2016. Really looking to get away from the stresses of travel, delivering on critical deadlines, and managing teams.
So Paul, move over and I'll take a seat and help row... very slowly.
Robert
Hope you're feeling better today. I kind of retired 10 years ago, but didn't like it, so I've been working 2-3 days a week for the past 7 years. I do not, however, have a hellacious commute or any pressure at work. I feel now tho, that I will want to retire this fall and devote all my time to having fun. How I will accomplish this with Afib, COPD and arthritis (need hip replacement) will be interesting. Just wanted to wish you well whatever your decide to do.
