how old is he? I'm 42, for the first 5 years, AF lasted 20-30 hours, & self reverted. for the next 6 years, it was either self reversion or a bollus dose of flecainide 300mg, or, emergency IV flecainide... AF does beget AF, I highly recommend getting reverted either electro or chemical-version. i've had several episodes of 3-4 days.. that's only due to my aversion to hospitals. Now, i take myself straight in to emerg to get reverted, so the alternate pathway in my heart doesn't get much say.

Hi Kius, he's 48 and still afibbing day 5 now. His HR is in 80 BP normal. We are going to call Cardio again tomorrow to find out if Flecainide might get him in rythym. He was on Flec for about 1 month and it seemed to help then started having 2 episodes per day ,so he's been off of that because cardio though he might be starting a new arrythmia. He feels good other than the fact that he nows and feels that his heart is out of rythym, Sounds like you've been dealing with this for a while. Thanks for the info, all is appreciated! Lisa

Petey, the duration of A-Fib doesn't matter if you don't feel it. I never did, and you don't either....I'm thinking this man is feeling his heart racing.

I'm really confused about when you are in afib issue. Is being in afib when you have a fast heart rate? Very rarely does my heart rate get up to 110 or maybe siightly higher then stops after about an hour. Is that what you all are saying is being in afib? Also, most of my issue with afib is that I have skipped heart beats. Once I had skipped heart beats every 2 to 5 seconds. Sometimes 20 times a minute. These skipped beats would subside for a bit then start again. Once I had them like that everyday for a month then they just stopped. Now I just have a few now and then. So my question is ... when I have skipped heart beats am I in afib? Or is being in afib having a fast heart rate? I'm just taking Metoprolol, Norvasc and Pradaxa. My normal heart rate is in the 50s to 60s.

One more note to add to what I said above.. I do have flutters once in a while. Not very often. maybe once or twice a month.

It is when you have an irregular heart beat (fast/slow/fast) caused by a fibrillating (quivering) atrium. Normally the atria send an electrical signal (P Wave) to the venticles to beat (QRS Wave), hopefully, evenly. Most people get an elevated heart rate (Ventricular Tachycardia), but not everyone.
