Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I just wanted to send an update to all my friends here that prayed for my safe ablation.
Yesterday morning I met with my EP before my proceedure and ironically I was in Atrial Flutter with a heart rate of about 150. This was actually good news as it allowed the doctors to find those sports in the right atrium first. Once they were almost done there, they noticed I immediately went into AFIB and they went over to the left atrium and believe they were able to completely isolate the Pulmonary Veins.
When my family met with the doctor, he was very optimistic and i have been in NSR ever since. This morning when I finally got to talk to him, he told me the same thing and that in a couple of months will be the real test as the ablation areas scar up. Overall, he said it was "textbook" and I feel so excited!
I can honestly say, I would not have had the courage to go through this with out everyone here and my wonderful girlfriend and family.
I appreciate everything and will be here often as I heal. For the record, I feel good only 24 hours post op. I have a sore throat and a mild discomfort when I breath real deep. It is nothing compared to my anxiety. The team at Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital was incredible. They do this proceedure multiple times every single day. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! No pun intended!

So glad your experience was so positive. How are you feeling at this stage? Did you have any complications or did it all go smoothly?
Great news! I am so happy for you and your loved ones. I agree the build up preceeding the procedure is daunting. But, the actual event is not that bad at all.
I also had a sore throat afterwards and asked my daughter as least one hundred times why I had a sore throat. During recovery I had a very short term memory that kept us both laughing until the drugs wore off. I am still holding NSR since October 12. I am on the way to the doc now to make sure I am good for a pacemaker on Thursday this week. I have had that darn respirtory infection since before Thanksgiving. Prayers are welcome so I can get this next step completed.

Things are still going well... i have been in NSR almost 100% of the time. I have maybe a couple of blips since my proceedure last Thursday. My EP said not to be alarmed at some feelings of AFIB for the first couple of months... so I just ignore them. My body feels 95% back to normal but i am still going to lay low for a bit yet. I may bounce in and out of my office tomorrow just to add some "normal" back to my day.
I will continue to pray for us all tonight!
