Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Are you the same as me and know that your body has static and get that feeling that you are going to get a "boot" before you even touch the door handle?
Thanks for bringing it up.
Sorry to hear about the return of your afib. I still believe candy bars, nuts, cheese are the cause of your afib. Just stop eating them for a week and see if you get better. It is a veeeeeeery simple test, which might solve your problem.
As far as static electricity, I do NOT believe it has anything to do with your afib. It is physics 101. It gets generated in your body when you walk on a carpet or move on the seat in your car (the rubbing action generates it). Then, it discharges when you come in contact with another object which is at a different potential than your body. When the air is dry (low humidity), the static electricity is worse. For example, Phx is really bad since it is very dry (10% humidity). We always shock ourselves. Even my cats get zap on their noses when they run on the carpet and get close to a window frame, which is metal. I can see the spark between their nose and the window frame. Of course, just like us, they do NOT like it at all because it is painful. I don't think my cats have afib :-) They run around and climb trees without any problem, LOL.
Warning, Warning, Please read the following:
When you want to get gas, please MAKE SURE you touch the body of your car before opening your gas tank. Otherwise, your gas tank might blow up if there is a static electricity discharge between you and your car after you open your gas tank. You get charged with static electricity when you slide out of your seat. Also, a lot of gas fumes (very flammable) come out when you open up the cap on the gas tank. So, if you open the gas tank and you have not already discharged yourself, there will be a spark if you touch your car, which will ignite the gas fumes from the gas tank. This has happened in Phx and other places in the country. So, I thought I should mention it here. Please ignore it if you already know about this.
By the way, static electricity is a very big deal in electronic labs and manufacturing facilities. Companies spend lots of money to make sure the workers are totally discharged before touching any electrical components. Static electricity destroys electronic components if they are not protected. Static electricity is a fact of life. It gets generated just by walking or touching other objects. It is not because of afib. Trust me :-)
Good luck,
Scott
It sounds like you are good and you should not have any spark problem after opening your gas tank cap :-)
By the way, answering a cell phone call, can be another source for spark. So, to be 100% safe, do not answer your cell phone while fueling.
As far as eating cheese and nuts, I am with you and I hear you. I love them too. But, I don't believe a procedure like ablation can correct the nut/cheese sensitivity. I hope you are correct. I am going to be right behind you if it works out for you :-) I am dead serious. I know petey will call me a "fool" for saying this, LOL But, it is getting harder just to look at a cheesecake and not to dive in and eat it like everybody else :-) Talking about torture, LOL
I wish you lots of luck and I send you good thoughts. The Girl Power be with you :-)
