I had my endoscopy yesterday to see how my hiatal hernia is doing. I was told to go back on my Nexium(that I took myself off off due to cost)to help get my asthma back under control, and had a biopsy done of a white spot in my throat! Now, the doctor KNOWS I'm on steroid inhalers!! If he THOUGHT it was a yeast infection, then why not just treat me!!!? So now I have to pay the cost of a, possibly unnescessary biopsy, and suffer for one more week without treatment until the results of the biopsy come back! Thinking I'll just bipass the GI doctor and call my pulmonologist for treatment......

What do ya think?

Call your doctor for treatment immediately. this is simple solvable problem.

On top of this, there have been numerous studies showing a large percentage of those on inhaled steroids have yeast infections in their esophogus and don't know it. This is a KNOWN fact previously published in well-known medical journals.

It is my belief an antifugal should be given on monthly basis when taking inhaled steroids.

Gosh! Yes, agreed, call your doctor and get started on treatment. I developed thrush from the inhaled steroids and as stated above, it is a common problem. Perhaps that white spot didn't look like thrush??? Maybe it is something that needed to be biopsied??

Hopefully it is nothing! Just get started on treatment. K?

ive had an emergency one of those a while back.
he couldnt finish because i started having trouble breathing.
had to call in all the pulmonologists but from what he saw i was sooooo red and irritated

and eww i have thrush like every week from all the steroids.
only thing i can drink when i haev that is gatorade.

Got the results today of my endoscopy. I don't think the nurse really knew what I was asking about. She said that I have erosion from the reflux, and need to go back onto my Nexium. When I asked about the biopsy, she said that it was yeast and not fungus, and then she said that it was inconclusive of Yeast and fungus!!!! hmmm. I'm following up with my GI doctor next week to get the low down anyway.

I tried to call my Pulmonologist, and while waiting for a call back, I found out that he had a medical emergency of his own. The doctors on call were offered to me for a call back, but I told the office to forget the call back and that I'd just follow up with the GI doctor as I supposed to. :( One of the doctors on call was over zellous, and the other just kind of did what you asked and gave you the meds weather you needed them or not. It's hard when you are not there patients. This is why I just chose to wait and call the GI doctor.
