I am new to this board. I have Asthma bad. This is my second battle this year with pleurisy. I started breathing treatments 4 times a day and a steroid pack the first week. Second week, my pulmonoary dr lowered my dosage of Advair to 100/50 from 500/50 and said the best thing for pleurisy was Ibuprophen. This did not work. By the 3rd week, I changed dr's after seeing the first one for over 5 years and he upped my meds back to 500/50 but didn't give me pain meds. Now, I was in a level 9 pain. So, went home. Next day, I had to call 911 because of tachacardia. (sp) My left arm started tingling, felt like someone was sitting on my chest and I had this pressure in the middle of my chest. Every time I stood up, I just couldn't. The parmedics came, the gave me nitro. The feeling in my arm came back and the tightness went away. The pressure was still there so, they gave me another squirt of nitro. On the way to the er, I had very little pressure right at my heart and they gave me another. In the er, my heart stabilized and then the pain from the pleurisy started, screaming pain. I felt like I was in good hands there. The dr. there went to my primary care dr for years. He changed my meds. He put me on another steriod pack, celebrex, darvacett, xanx, sprevia, and told me to keep doing the advair and breathing treatments and the ibprophen. The pleusiy is FINALLY under control. The only way was to use 3 different types of anitinflammatory medicines.

I just can't believe that no one would give me a pain medicine for 4 weeks. You have to go to the er and have you heart go into spasams before someone will give you something for pain? That is just crazy.

Well, I now have another appointment to meet with another pulmonary dr. I am determined to find one that has my best interest in mind and won't lower my medication or be afraid to go the extra mile when things are not working and give you pain meds when you clearly need it.



I just had to post. I am still healing. My husband took control of all the meds and we write everything down and the times. I was so confused on what I was taking and when that now I know why you need a professional doing this. It was hard for me the first 3 weeks. My hubby just kept doing his thing and when I had the ER episode, he finally got it, that he had to help get this organized and be on time with taking everything.



Thanks for letting me vent. I wanted to post because, pleurisy is so hard to get rid of and I want people to know what it took and the meds to get it under control.
