Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.
I've only found myself to hold "hard core" loyalty for my family. If members of my family betray me, or anyone else in the family, my loyalty to them vanishes very quickly. I can say that with confidence, because that just recently happened to me. Certain members of my family, that I once held deep respect for, and loyalty to, are now non-existent to me. I won't go into why, because it all revolves around very private family matters.
Suffice to say that certain actions taken by some family members resulted in a permanent rift between other members of the family that weren't even involved at first.
The result was that my own father and step-mother decided to remove themselves from the picture by moving out of their home, and my 90 year old grandmother felt forced to sell her home of sixty years, and move half way across the country away from her entire family (except for one uncle she will be living with). She was so heart broken over the whole thing that when I went down to see her before she left with my kids, she couldn't deal with us visiting, so we ended up having to say good-bye over the phone (actually, just me, she couldn't even handle talking to the kids - the whole situation had upset her so much).
It was the result that infuriated me. But it was my loyalty to my own father that led me to spend that time with him instead. He needed it, and it was only after spending that day with him that I realized that was the real reason I needed to be there.
I am fiercely loyal, but very choosy about who benefits from my loyalty.
I also feel loyalty to employers, but only as far as I feel they are loyal to me, and my interests. It's a mutually beneficial loyalty. If I feel that my needs are not being met, my loyalty to the company quickly begins to lessen.
It's also true with friendships. As long as my friends are loyal, so am I.
The reason I, in particular feel this isn't really an AS issue, is, one, I've never seen it listed as an attribute anywhere, and two, I don't have a whole lot of friends, because not very many people have maintained any loyalty to me. And they don't have it. I do.
to most of my friends I am their #1 and best cinfidant they tell me and share with me what they will not tell anyone else...
this kind of special connection with so many good friends makes me feel special and truly appreciated for the decent man that I am..
and speaks strongly for my character without me saying a word.. it makes me self confident even when difficult times hit..
to being well self balanced and returning myself to a centered and balanced perspective that few ever reach..
