Asperger Syndrome Support Group
Asperger syndrome - also referred to as Asperger's syndrome, Asperger's, Aspergers or just AS - is one of five neurobiological pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and is characterized by deficiencies in social and communication skills, normal to above normal intelligence, and standard language development.
"The last therapist I went to (who I saw for a year and leaned more towards being abusive than helpful) had a 23 year old son with Aspergers so she told me she understood. The only thing she told me to do was to accept this and go on!"
I know the feeling. The advice to "accept" something never helped me. It felt like telling me to just reach my goal when what I needed was a step-by-step map to get there. I hope you'll find better guidance here.
My first bit of advice would be to read as much as you can on the topic. Learning helps, especially, I think, because of the systematic and logical way we think.
The good news I can offer is that in the past three years I've made remarkable progress...I'm happier, healthier, and much comfortable socially, all while still "being me."
