Remember first off that the description of the disorder is just a general set of guidelines. Same as with any other developmental disability, the individual variations can be enormous. One kid can't make eye contact no matter how hard he tries; a second avoids it mostly with people she doesn't know, but gets too close and stares eye-to-eye with the ones she's comfortable with; one has so many fixations that he seems to be well-rounded where another has only one fixation, and a third has none at all. Some fall apart if you change anything on them and others don't even notice.

THanks for your comments. Its so complex and even with the individual the rules change all the time! the fixation is there one day and then not the next and the smallest thing can cause so many problems. It really mind boggling but definatly an interesting and challenging job. I do love it tho.

It is true...we think very differently than NTs (Neurotypicals...average people).

Remember that many of us are acutely sensory defensive. Noises, smells, textures and visual issues can cause us to go into meltdown. Sometimes we don't know exactly what is causing it, we just start to go into lockdown mode/ or meltdowns.

Read as much as you can...but staying here and reading posts and replies will give you a very good understanding.
